Meghan Trainor has reflected on her birth experience with her first child, Riley.

The singer birthed the now-two-year-old boy through a cesarean section and opened up on the scary events during a recent conversation about dedicating a chapter in her new book, "Dear Future Mama," to mental health. She shares her baby boy — and is expecting her second child — with her husband, Daryl Sabara.

Meghan Trainor's Mental Health Inclusion In Her New Book Was Birthed From Her Motherhood Dilemma

When Trainor joined "Today with Hoda & Jenna" to talk about her new book, she could not help but point out why she needed to include a "huge" chapter. As it turned out, the "All About That Bass" hitmaker had spent much of her time in a "big debate" about whether she wanted to keep using her antidepressants while pregnant with Riley. As she told co-hosts Jenna Bush Hager and Hoda Kotb in a clip posted to Twitter:

"It was a big debate, do I stay on my antidepressants or not? It was very safe. I got it approved by all my doctors, but my first OBGYN, this guy was like, 'Oh, you can throw those candies away.' I was, like, devastated."

The 29-year-old star's feelings on the matter took a deeper plunge when some nurses hinted that Riley coming out "sleepy" might have been connected with the antidepressants she was on during her nine-month term. After explaining that she reached out to her doctors to slam them for not pointing out that side effect, the "Don't I Make It Look Easy" singer added:

"I just felt so much shame. I just had a crazy surgery, and I'm on all these drugs, and I feel miserable, and to get pointed at to say 'it's your fault that your kid's asleep.'"

The doctor who performed the surgery attempted to calm Trainor's nerves by reassuring her that "C-sections are gnarly like the baby had trauma coming out. It happens constantly, it's unpredictable, and you did nothing wrong."

However, that only did a little to alleviate the stress as her son struggled with breathing after his birth, leading to him spending several days in the neonatal intensive care unit [NICU] before he was given the all-clear to go home. The events led to his mother getting diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder [PTSD] because she could not hold her baby in her arms after the procedure.

The Grammy Awards recipient was still on the surgical table getting sewn up while her husband rushed their newborn to the NICU. Bringing their baby home was no easy feat either, as Trainor's life now included flashbacks and nightmares connected to the C-section.

She has since reached out to a therapist who helped her realize that the "chemical reactions in [her] brain" were likely the culprit of her problems while learning to "open that up and heal that wound."

"Dear Future Mama: A TMI Guide to Pregnancy, Birth and Motherhood" was released on April 25.

The YouTube Music Awards Recipient's Husband Remained Supportive During Her 'Hairy' Pregnancy

Amid having a traumatic first pregnancy, the Billboard Music Awards winner recently disclosed that she enlisted her husband as a personal groomer to smoothen the journey. Per The Blast, the television personality recounted Sabara taking up the razor to shave her legs – amongst other areas – in the days leading up to the surgery, stating:

"For the C-section, I don't know why, but I was like, 'I want a clear path. I want nothing in the way, so make sure it's gorgeous down there;' so they could see everything. And he did that for me."

Now that the blue-eyed soul songstress' second pregnancy is closing in on the finish line, she has disclosed her plan to enlist the "Spy Kids" star's help again. In her words. "I told him yesterday, 'I'm at that point where I can't see, I can't reach, I can't bend.' He'll do anything for me."

The lovebirds have been making hearts swoon since they made social media official in October 2016, following their first date, which Sabara described as "love at first sight." Within a year, they had gotten engaged, walking down the aisle in 2018 on the "Dear Future Husband" singer's 25th birthday.
