"The best engineers I knew at NASA were the ones who could break a complex problem down to first principles. They could strip away the noise, reduce a problem to its essence, and find a solution. Jimmy Donaldson - known online by the handle MrBeast - can do that too," former NASA engineer Mark Rober wrote in TIME.

"The path to making his videos go viral and dominating social platforms - including YouTube, where he has 140 million subscribers - is clear and obvious to him."

Rober gave some examples of the many notable things Donaldson has done. "When we worked together to raise the funds to plant 20 million trees and remove 30 million lb. of plastic from the ocean through the Team Trees and Team Seas campaigns, his optimism was infectious," he continued.

"He's constantly raising the bar for creators whether it's through re-creating "Squid Game" in real life or paying for eye surgeries of 1,000 blind people."

Donaldson is making waves and getting noticed by everyone. In addition to being named one of TIME magazine's most influential people of 2023, Donaldson was named Forbes Under 30 North America 2023.

According to Forbes, MrBeast is one of the highest-paid YouTubers in the world, earning a net worth of $500 million. And as any of his followers know, he doesn't plan to keep it all to himself, as he's constantly seen giving it away.

According to Forbes, Donaldson earned $54 million last year, including $32 million from ads across his social channels and $9 million from sponsored content. His earnings are the highest of any social media content creator.

"Many people still see YouTubers as a subclass of influencers," Donaldson said. "They still just don't truly understand the influence many creators have."

With so much money being donated and gifted, many might wonder how he continues to keep the money rolling in.

"It's pretty simple. I got my first brand deal for $10,000 and gave it away. I got it, went outside, and gave it to a homeless person," he told Forbes. "I don't want to play it up too much. It just felt good. It's a world where I take ten grand and light it on fire and make 20 grand."

Did he share the secret sauce to his massive success at such a young age while teaching a business class at Harvard University earlier this month? Only the students in the class he taught at Harvard know the answer to that question, but glancing at the board behind him in a photo he shared on Instagram, it appears he pointed them in the right direction.

The photos and limited information he shared on the Instagram page of his time as a Harvard professor received nearly 5 million likes. That even shocked him. He took to Instagram Stories to share how well the content did.
