“Air” (2023) will tell the true story of shoe salesman Sonny Vaccaro (Matt Damon) and how he convinced Nike to work with one of the greatest athletes of all time — Michael Jordan.
Alongside Damon, the film will star Ben Affleck as Phil Knight, Viola Davis as Deloris Jordan, Chris Tucker as Howard White, Jason Bateman as Rob Strasser, and Marlon Wayans as George Raveling.
Wayans recently appeared on "Good Morning America" to promote the upcoming movie, where he revealed just how many pairs of shoes he owns.
Marlon Wayan Owns Over 1,000 Pairs Of Shoes
When speaking to the "Good Morning America" hosts about his upcoming role in "Air", Marlon Wayans talked about his love for shoes and where it stemmed from.
"Maybe growing up poor and having to wear my brothers' shoes, I just wanted my own and I grew up, and I worked up in sneaker stores, I worked in US Athletics, I worked in Athletes Foot, I worked in Foot Locker, I worked in Bonnie's New York, that's where I grew up, so when I started making a little bit of money, I was like, 'I don't want to buy rings and cars and jewelry. I just want shoes'."

Wayans continued, "My dad would never let me buy Jordans, he always bought us those shoes that you buy in the meat market that smell like meat."
The morning talk show then shows a photo of Wayans' shoe collection, which he says consists of 1,100 pairs of shoes. "If anybody wants some shoes, holla at your boy," he said laughing.
Ben Affleck Talks 'Air'
When making the movie, Ben Affleck went to talk to Michael Jordan one-on-one to not only get his blessing but to ask if there were any specifics he wanted to see within the film to which Jordan said two things — the first, he wanted Viola Davis to play his mom in the movie and the second, he wanted Howard White in the film.
“I went to speak to Michael because I’ve been lucky enough to run across him a few times," Affleck said in an interview promoting the movie. "I’m not going to act like me and him are friends, you know what I mean? Just like idolized the guy and every now ad again I’ve had a chance to spend time with him. It’s been very memorable for me. Probably he’s forgotten it. So, I had at least enough of an in to say, ‘Hey, you know, can I come see you and just kind of run this past you?’
He continued, "Because, to be honest, listen, from a point of view of a respect for him, his family, who he is, what he means from a selfish point of view, from the movie, like the stupidest thing in the world would be to go make a movie that involves… he’s not in, doesn’t appear in, nonetheless, that invokes his name and tells a part of his story that he was opposed to.”
The actor continued, “If he said don’t do it, I just was going to not do it. That would be that. You know, over. Last conversation. And I was very, very prepared for that to be the result of that because I had no reason to think that he would be open to it or that he would welcome it, particularly since it wasn’t the Michael Jordan story where they had bought his rights and that sort of thing, which I would think might be discomforting."
"However, what I found was that he was very gracious and actually when I said, ‘Look, this is not historically accurate in the sense that I can’t dot every I and cross every T, what time every phone call was made, this is going to have to be something of a fable, a parable, an inspiring story, and so I’m going to take liberties in order to make it an hour and 30, 40 minutes, but I don’t want to violate anything that’s fundamentally important or true to you,” Affleck explained.
"Air" hits theaters on April 5, 2023.
