Kelsea Ballerini has spoken candidly about the painful breakdown of her marriage to Morgan Evans.

Although sparks were flying when Evans and Ballerini first met in 2016 on the stage of Australia's Country Music Channel Awards (CMAs), it soon turned into something else after they began their marital journey nearly two years later.

During their four-year union, Ballerini dealt with lots of heartache and uncomfortable situations, including spending a few nights on their couch. She soon discovered there was nothing left for her in the marriage and filed for divorce last August.

Since her split from Evans, Ballerini has kept the details of the relationship and its eventual breakdown away from the media. However, that changed when she joined Alexandra Cooper on her comfortable couch and spilled the tea that many fans have been dying to hear.

The conversation started with Cooper asking the "half of my hometown" singer if she could pinpoint the moment she knew her marriage would not survive, prompting the response that she made the connection a "long time ago." Ballerini revealed:

"There were separations, there was [sic] years of couples therapy. There was [sic] many a night of sleeping on the couch. This was just a relationship that took work for a long time."

The Billboard Women in Music winner then recalled sleeping "on the couch the night before the CMAs" going to a rehearsal at the arena where she tried texting her then-husband. Instead of keeping the conversation going, Evans had told her, "I'll just see you at [sic] the carpet."

It is worth noting that even though Ballerini did not disclose which CMAs she was referencing, her remembrance of the event connects to the story she belted out in her latest track, "Blindsided." In the song, the 29-year-old referenced "a big fight" just before an unnamed "big show" in 2019.

The "Hell's Kitchen" star further explained to the "Call Her Daddy" host that sleeping on the couch was triggered by the "sense of disconnection" between her and Evans. In fact, it was usual for the former lovebirds to spend extended periods without seeing each other.

In her words, there "was a lack of effort to see each other," leading to feelings of resentment on her part, and anytime they saw each other, Ballerini "felt like I was carrying that load, and I was tired." Ultimately, the tiredness made her feel "depleted" and "not understood."

Despite being sure that leaving the marriage was the right decision, the Black River signee still has lonely moments, especially during the holidays. The Blast noted that she hinted at those feelings last Christmas when she shared a picture of herself in a green sweater and minimal makeup.

"hi. Sending you a hug. Holidays can be both a beautiful time and also bring up some big, hard feelings," Ballerini wrote across the image. She even advised her 3.2 million followers to "protect those precious hearts" and wished them a "merry Christmas week.🫶"

The season hits extra hard for the "Miss Me More" singer, who would have celebrated her fifth wedding anniversary with the 37-year-old if they remained together.

Six months after his marriage to Ballerini collapsed, The Blast observed that Evans was not shy about addressing his emotions about the unfortunate event. During an interview with Bobby Bones, the Australian hunk divulged his realization that his only power was over his feelings and actions.

The "Country Outta My Girl" hitmaker then shared his gratitude to the people around him that kept reminding him of that power while keeping him "grounded in that way."

Aside from having a supportive clan, the country singer's healing process was aided by his breakup song, "Over For You," which was a medium to express his "level of vulnerability" at the time.

"Having gone through a situation like that, seeing that it helps other people going through situations like that, yeah, it's really a big deal," Evans said, referring to the song's impact on his fan base.

The "Love Is Real" singer even recalled the first time he performed the heart-wrenching tune, claiming, "it felt good to do that and just be honest and not try to cover things up."
