A Nevada sheriff's office incident report revealed that Renner was in the process of saving his adult nephew from being crushed when he collided with his snow plow machine on January 1. According to CNN, Renner did not activate the machine's emergency brake as the snow plow started sliding sideways after the actor made use of it while pulling the vehicle from the snow.

"The Pistenbully snow groomer began sliding, causing Renner to exit the vehicle without setting the emergency brake," the redacted Washoe County Sheriff's Office report read.

It further stated that the machine had some mechanical issues; however, the parking brake would have stopped it from moving if it had been activated. "Although the Pistenbully had some mechanical issues, it is believed, based on our mechanical inspection, that the parking brake would keep the Pistenbully from moving forward," it continued.
