Tom Brady announced last year that he would retire from the NFL, however, he quickly had a change of heart as he came out of retirement just weeks later and returned to play for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this past season.
The Bucs were eliminated from the playoffs in the first round when they lost to the Dallas Cowboys, and now everyone is wondering if the 45-year-old quarterback will retire once again or if he will return to the NFL next year.
Tom Brady Gets Heated After Being Asked About Retirement
On Monday's episode of his “Let’s Go!” podcast, Brady's cohost Jim Gray asked the NFL quarterback if he has plans to retire or if he will return to play next year.
However, Brady got a bit heated when the retirement topic was brought up as he responded with “If I knew what I was going to f–king do, I would’ve already f–king done it."
He then added, “I’m taking it a day at a time.”
After a long and awkward silence, Gray tried to lighten the mood by joking that Brady seemed “antagonized by the question.” Brady later thanked Gray for asking when he said, “I appreciate your asking,” before moving on to a new topic.
After the loss to the Cowboys, in a press conference, Brady addressed retirement by saying “I’m going to go home and get a good night’s sleep as soon as I can tonight. There’s been a lot of focus on this game. Just one day at a time.”
NFL Teams Considering Signing Tom Brady
If Tom Brady does return to the NFL next season, it more than likely won't be with his current team, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, or with his former team, the New England Patriots. In fact, former teammate Rob Gronkowski said he would be "surprised" if Brady returns to the Patriots.
“I would 100 percent be surprised if he went back to New England, no doubt,” the 33-year-old said. “It would be nuts, it would be a crazy story, but I just really don’t see that happening. I’m not Tom, I’m just putting my analyzing skills out there, and I think that would be a tough shot for him, but it’s open."
A few days ago, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported that there are a few teams currently looking at signing the 45-year-old quarterback. Those teams include the Tennessee Titans, the San Francisco 49ers, and the Las Vegas Raiders.
“He’ll be 46 years old and I would say there’s a chance that he does not return to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers despite the fact that they very much want him back and plan to make efforts toward that,” Rapoport said during “NFL GameDay” on Sunday. “Among the teams that would consider Brady — a couple of them considered Brady last time [in his first free agency in 2020].”
“The Tennessee Titans still have some quarterback questions,” Rapoport continued. “The 49ers if they do not decide to roll with Brock Purdy, although he’s certainly stating his case. And then the Las Vegas Raiders, who have several of his old friends including Josh McDaniels.”
At this time, there is no confirmation on if Tom Brady will return to the NFL, and if he does, where he would end up for the upcoming season.
