New Trailer For 'The Mandalorian' Season 3 Delivers Intriguing New Footage

The trailer for Season 3 debuted during halftime of the NFL Super Wild Card matchup between the Dallas Cowboys and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The game was simulcast across ABC, ESPN, and ESPN+.

The new season sees the continuing journey of the formerly lone bounty hunter, Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal), who recently reunited with his adopted foundling, Grogu, during "The Book of Boba Fett" miniseries. In the events of Season 3, the New Republic attempts to lead the galaxy away from its dark history. Meanwhile, Djarin, aka the eponymous Mandalorian, crosses paths with old allies and meets new enemies as he and Grogu continue their journey together as a clan of two.

The new trailer features some interesting new footage. Picking up from where the characters last appeared in "The Book of Boba Fett," Din Djarin and Grogu are now traveling to Mandalore, where Djarin hopes to redeem himself for the transgression of removing his helmet. It also looks like Din Djarin might be working with some new Mandalorians and Bo-Katan, who previously sought to retake Mandalore.

Also, the Imperial Remnant is still out there, as the footage shows Djarin in his new starfighter engaging with Imperial Tie fighters. It also looks like there will be a visit to the hub city of Coruscant, along with what appear to be robed Jedi in front of a dear being torched open. The context of who these Jedi are and what they are facing is not yet clear.

Season 3 stars Pascal, Katee Sackhoff (Bo-Katan Kryze), Carl Weathers (Greef Karga), Amy Sedaris (Peli Motto), Emily Swallow (The Armorer), and Giancarlo Esposito (Moff Gideon). Besides the new trailer, Disney and Lucasfilm also confirmed the directors of Season 3, which will consist of eight episodes once again. Directors for Season 3 include Rick Famuyiwa, Rachel Morrison, Lee Isaac Chung, Weathers, Peter Ramsey, and Bryce Dallas Howard.

Famuyiwa and Howard both directed episodes of Seasons 1 and 2. Weathers directed "Chapter 12: Siege" in Season 2. Jon Favreau serves as showrunner/head writer and executive producer for the series along with Dave Filoni, Famuyiwa, Kathleen Kennedy, and Colin Wilson.

Favreau has also done double-duty in the series, voicing the Heavy Infantry Mandalorian, aka Paz Vizsla, in "The Mandalorian" and "The Book of Boba Fett." Filoni also appeared as the New Republic pilot, Trapper Wolf, in the first two seasons.

The wait for the third season of "The Mandalorian" was a bit longer after Season 2, which concluded in December 2020. In the meantime, Disney and Lucasfilm dropped "The Book of Boba Fett" miniseries, which continued multiple story threads from "The Mandalorian" when the show debuted in December 2021.

Lucasfilm is also working on multiple spinoffs set in a similar time period as "The Mandalorian," such as the live-action "Ahsoka" series. "Ahsoka," starring Rosario Dawson, debuts on Disney+ later this year. Season 3 of "The Mandalorian" debuts on Disney+ on March 1.
