'Harry & Meghan' Docuseries Irks Howard Stern
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's new Netflix documentary, in which they reveal "the full truth" about the royal family, has drawn the ire of radio presenter Howard Stern.
The Miss America author expressed his dissatisfaction with the royals by stating that although he doesn't watch the show, he's forced to see it and know what it's about since his wife watches it.
On his thoughts about the series, Stern said (via Mediaite), "It's been painful. I don't — I wouldn't stay with it, but my wife wants to watch it, so, you know, we have shows we watch, but they come off like such whiny b**ches. I gotta tell you, man, I just don't get it."
Stern compared "Harry & Meghan" to "The Kardashians" and called it boring, even though he expressed sympathy for Harry at the loss of his mother and noted that Princess Diana had received harsh treatment.
"It's just very weird to watch two people who keep screaming, 'We wanted our privacy, we wanted the press to leave us alone.' And then what are they special that they put out on Netflix — showing you them and their kids and their life. It's like the Kardashians except boring. You know what I mean?" he said.
Howard Stern Wants To Know What They Aim To Achieve With The Docuseries
Stern questioned the purpose of the documentary, expressing his confusion over what the Duke and Duchess aimed to achieve with it.
"Where do you go with this? Is this your career…talking about how humiliated you were being part of, I don't know, living in a castle — and it's hard to relate to," he said per Mediaite.
The radio host acknowledged that the Royals' way of life sounded "pretty terrific" and added that he would never have to worry about money or work had he been in their position.
Howard Stern Thinks Prince Harry Might Leave Meghan Markle
The radio host also expressed his opinion on the longevity of their marriage, adding that he doesn't see them staying together for long. Via Mediaite, the radio host said, "I think he's eventually not gonna dig her. I'm telling you."
Responding to the question by his co-host Robin Quivers on how many times they can sell the same story, Stern Joked about it, suggesting that they could make a cartoon off it.
The Duke and Duchess' docuseries has received harsh reviews from critics and will need the second volume to save it.
'Harry & Meghan' Has Been Critically Panned
The docuseries, which has generated worldwide interest since its release on the popular streaming service, has received several unflattering reviews from top critics.
In a review of the show, Variety's Daniel D'Addario compared the series with the interview they gave Oprah in 2021, adding that most of the content is regurgitated.
He noted that although they may have shed their obligations to the crown, they're still in service to a certain degree. The critic said, "There's an air of duty about the entire enterprise of 'Harry & Meghan,' as if they're honor-bound to keep reciting their personal story until we eventually lose interest."
Nicholas Witchell, a veteran royal correspondent for the BBC, appeared on the network's "News at Six" to review the documentary and debunked Meghan Markle's claim that the media was trying to "destroy" her.
"The idea that anyone was out to 'destroy her' frankly I think is absurd and simply does not stand up to proper and reasonable scrutiny," Witchell said, per Variety.
'Harry & Meghan,' the second volume, is set for release on December 15th on Netflix. With the reception of the first volume, the next part will need to go hard or go home. As it stands, though, things do not look great for the $100 million docuseries.
