Did Dwayne Johnson Jump The 'Gunn' With Henry Cavill Superman Announcement?

Dwayne Johnson's "Black Adam" DC high might just be winding down rather sharply given that the new bosses of DC, James Gunn, and Peter Safran are allegedly slightly miffed. While its got nothing to do with his performance in the movie, it's his jumping the gun, or should we Gunn, announcing the return of Henry Cavill as Superman.

With the new bosses at the helm and new directions for the DC Studio, Henry Cavill's return as Superman is a bit uncertain so Dwayne Johnson's announcement might have been premature.

According to a piece by The Hollywood Reporter, DC may not go ahead with a sequel to "Black Adam". While the movie was surrounded by plenty of hype and clever marketing by Dwayne Johnson, the monies do not make sense for a second movie.

With a total gross of $385 million worldwide and a production cost of anything between $190-230 million, "Black Adam" might only just break even, given that the marketing costs have not been included. Even if it does make a small profit, rising costs associated with a sequel may not make all that much sense.

Now while Johnson managed to land a piece of DC, his incessant "bragging" about getting Cavill back as Superman, might be further antagonizing the new DC heads, even as he publically announced that the "Black Adam" movie is likely to make a profit of $50-70 million, something not all media outlets, agree with Johnson on.

Both Johnson and Cavill are managed by Dany Garcia, who is also Johnson’s producing partner.

On October 27, Johnson posted, "We fought for years to bring you back. They always said no. But for Dany Garcia, Hiram Garcia & myself “no” was never an option. We can’t intelligently & strategically build out our DC Universe without the greatest superhero of all time."

Johnson continued to say, captioning the video of Henry Cavill talking about his return as Superman, "Because for us, the fans will always come first. As wild as it sounds, I learned that “fans first” philosophy back when I was wrestling in flea markets for $40 bucks a match well before the bright lights of WWE. Welcome home, Superman. I’ll see you down the road…"

Sadly, it now seems the road is much further ahead, though, at the time, Johnson was not wrong given that Henry Cavill did come back as Superman, as a cameo in "Black Adam."

Patty Jenkins's third installment of "Wonder Woman 3" has also allegedly been shot down, sorry Gal Gadot, and curtains have closed on Snyderverse. Will that also close the curtains on "Man of Steel 2" and the return of Henry Cavill? What about Jason Momoa as "Aquaman?"

These characters were also supposed to cameo in "Flash" and it seems Cavill already shot his part in September. Now, there's a risk it will be cut out as sources say there is a debate within DC Studios, with some saying the cameo inclusion may hint at something the studio may not have plans for delivering. Sources also say that no plans have been finalized yet and that "Flash" is still developing into its ultimate result.

Cavill himself confirmed his return as Superman some time ago with this IG post:
