Kim Kardashian Breaks Silence On Balenciaga Child Bondage Controversy: 'Disgusted And Outraged'

Over the last weeks, fashion lovers have watched Balenciaga come under fire for its most recent ad featuring photos of children holding sexualized teddy bear backpacks.

The scandal has also affected Kim Kardashian, who incurred the wrath of the public when she posted a picture of her in an outfit from the big name last week. After a few days, she released a statement to pacify offended parties and fans.

In her first conversation about the matter, Kardashian explained via a Twitter thread why it took her a while to publicly address Balenciaga’s controversial campaign:

"I have been quiet for the past few days, not because I haven’t been disgusted by the recent Balenciaga campaigns, but because I wanted an opportunity to speak to their team to understand for myself how this could have happened."

The reality star, who has formed a close bond with the fashion brand and walked in their fashion show in Paris in July, added, "As a mother of four, I have been shaken by the disturbing images. The safety of children must be held with the highest regard and any attempts to normalize child abuse should have no place in our society – period."

While the mom-of-four appreciated Balenciaga’s "removal of the campaign" and their apology, she  believed that speaking with them has helped them "understand the seriousness of the issue and will take the necessary measures for this to never happen again." She concluded:

"As for my future with Balenciaga, I am currently re-evaluating my relationship with the brand, basing it off their willingness to accept accountability for something that should have never happened to begin with — & the actions I am expecting to see them take to protect children."

Twitter users who read the statement quickly reacted, concluding that the controversy would not stop Kardashian from wearing Balenciaga’s clothes and other fashion items. One person asked, "Why do you still need to talk to them? You need to dissociate with them immediately & use your money to research into depth wtf is going on. There is so much more than just a campaign."

"You say all this but refuse to cut ties with them [clown emojis]. f*ck you and pedo a** balenciagia [clown emoji]," a second user chimed. A third critic who supposedly figured what her plan was, tweeted, "Instead of cutting ties she’s "re-evaluating. Basically she’s waiting till people calm down so she can go back to advertise for them."

If you missed it, The Blast reported that drama ensued after Kardashian posted a snapshot of herself in a Balenciaga x Adidas collab outfit on Instagram. The "Kardashians" star sat on a couch and posed in front of a mirror in what appeared to be a closet.

She wore a gray top with the combined logos of the fashion brands embroidered on it over spandex bike shorts and their signature thigh-high boots.

Although some commenters initially laughed about Kardashian taking a swipe at her ex-husband Kanye West, who had been fired by both fashion companies following his antisemitic comments. Nevertheless, things quickly turned awry when news of Balenciaga’s distasteful campaign went viral.

Even though Kim had good intentions when she decided to spend Thanksgiving with young inmates at Camp Kilpatrick in Malibu, they were taken out of context when people saw who she went with. 

The Blast shared that the upcoming lawyer spent the day with her ex-brother-in-law Tristan Thompson — the NBA star who fathered her younger sister, Khloe’s two children while cheating on her on multiple occasions.

Kim’s caption for the images from the event began, "This year I want to say thank you to the people I have been meeting in all the prisons across the country." The businesswoman explained the reason she and Thompson were there, pointing out:

"My favorite part at our dinner was going around the table and hearing what their dreams and aspirations are. I can't wait to see them all come true."
