Grammy winning artist, Kelly Rowland, has reiterated her stance on the Chris Brown controversy, stating it's way past time for the public to move on from his screw-ups, even his public assault on Rihanna years ago. The singer spoke about her speech at the American Music Awards, during which she accepted Brown's award on his behalf, berated the booing crowd, and praised the singer.

Shortly after Rowland gave her speech at the AMAs, she and Brown began trending on social media. Many Twitter users were split between criticizing Brown for his aggressive past and Rowland for supporting him publicly. Many others supported her for making her position clear and pushing for people to forgive Brown.

The singer himself complained earlier about his tribute performance for Michael Jackson being canceled by the AMAs team with no explanation. He posted a video showing some of the moves that were meant for the performance and revealed that the featured songs included "Billie Jean," "Beat It," and "Thriller."

In a conversation with TMZ on November 21st, Rowland spoke about her American Music Awards moment, when she quieted a crowd booing at Brown winning an award. Rowland stated that she believes people are worthy of second chances and that the public needs a dose of humility.

Rowland also shared that people need to focus on the good rather than picking at the bad and choosing to cast stones at every turn. The singer said people need to forgive Brown, especially regarding his controversy with Rihanna, which happened almost 14 years ago.

She explained that it's the nature of human beings to come up short occasionally and that when they do, they deserve to start afresh and not have their past thrown at them again and again. As the singer noted, it's this ability to start again that makes us human.

Rowland recently came under fire for her speech while announcing Brown's win at the AMAs and for shushing the haters in the audience. The former "Destiny's Child" star announced that Brown had won the Favorite Male R&B Artist award. The announcement triggered boos from the crowd, and the singer immediately shut it down, insisting on finishing her speech.

Rowland then thanked Brown for his years of contribution to music and praised him. She said, "Excuse me, child chill out. Shortly after Rowland's speech at the AMAs, she and Brown began trending on Twitter, with many fans divided between criticizing the singer for defending Brown's violent and abusive past with women and supporting her for saying the "Undecided" singer deserves forgiveness.

One viral tweet read, "What the f**k is Chris brown doing still winning awards and why is Kelly Rowland up there thanking his a*s wtf truly." Another tweet read, "Kelly Rowland defending Chris Brown, an abuser and discriminatory asshat against dark-skinned black women. Embarrassing for her."

A response to the second tweet defended Brown and Rowland and received a lot of support. It read, "This bitterness will eat you up. This happened in the past. Even people he did it to forgave him a long time ago. What's your business with that? Are you Rihanna's sister or what?"

The day before the AMAs live broadcast, Brown revealed on his Instagram that his tribute performance to Michael Jackson, meant for the next day, had been canceled last minute with no explanation. He posted a lengthy video showing some dance moves for the canceled performance and shared some of the songs included in the roster.

The songs included Michael Jackson's hits like "Thriller," "Beat It," "Billie Jean," and "Wanna Be Starting Something." He initially captioned the post with "U SERIOUS?" then later commented, "WOULDVE been the ama performance but they cancelled me for reasons unknown."
