American actor John Stamos has voiced his support for his "Full House" co-star Lori Loughlin, who was embroiled in a college admissions scandal.

During his appearance on the "Armchair Expert" podcast, he stated that Loughlin had shown remorse for her actions, adding that she had made several financial and other restitutions.

Stamos also shared that Loughlin wasn't really aware of the details of the illegal admissions process.

The actress' career suffered a massive decline after the news of the scandal made headlines. She recently returned to the small screen in the series "When Hope Calls." She would also star in a romantic comedy "Fall Into Winter," which premieres in January 2023.

Speaking on the "Armchair Expert" podcast, Stamos discussed with host Dax Shepard how challenging it was to support Loughlin due to people's opinions of her since the college admission scandal.

"We talked last night about you. It was something that you were saying about how you hate when people bring her up because if you defend her, then people get mad," the 59-year-old said on Monday's episode of the podcast.

He added, "If you don't defend her, then you feel bad because she's a great person."

On his part, Stamos believes that Loughlin has shown remorse for her involvement in the scandal. He also stated that the actress has made several restitutions and should therefore be cut some slack.

At the height of the admissions scandal, Stamos told GQ that he was struggling to come to terms with Loughlin's alleged role in the far-reaching scam.

"I'll tell you one thing that has been strange is: Honestly I can't figure it out. It doesn't make sense," he told the men's magazine at the time, per US Weekly.

The Emmy Award winner now seems to have clarity on the scandal, as he asserted that Loughlin was in the dark about most of the processes involved in the attempt to obtain illegal admissions for her daughters, Bella, 24, and Olivia Jade, 23, into the University of Southern California.

"I am going to say this, and she said I could. She wasn't really the architect of any of it — she was in the way background. She didn't know what was going on."

In 2019, the "Homegrown Christmas" star and her husband, Mossimo Giannulli, were indicted alongside a couple of individuals involved in the scandal. Although they initially pleaded not guilty to the fraud charges, in May 2020, they agreed to a plea deal and were jailed for two months and five months, respectively.

The plea deal also required that Loughlin pay a $150,000 fine and participate in 100 hours of community service after her time in jail, all of which the "90210" alum has completed.

Similarly, her husband was ordered to pay a $250,000 fine and also participate in 250 hours of community service as his own restitution.

Since leaving prison, Loughlin has been working hard to steer her acting career back to its previous heights after it suffered considerable damage in the past few years.

She was brought on to star as Abigail Staton in season two of the spinoff series "When Hope Calls," a role she first played in the parent series, "When Calls the Heart," before being dropped amid the scandal.

The actress will also play the lead role in the forthcoming January release "Fall Into Winter." The rom-com centers on her character Keely, who learns that Brooks, her high school rival, purchased half of the family's candy store from her brother.

With no clear way to get out of the deal, the pair are forced to get along with each other and ultimately develop an unexpected connection.
