The popular Disney Channel Original Movie, “High School Musical”, starred Zac Efron (Troy Bolton), Vanessa Hudgens (Gabriella Montez), Corbin Bleu(Chad Danforth), Monique Coleman (Taylor McKessie), Ashley Tisdale (Sharpay Evans), and Lucas Grabiel (Ryan Evans).
It was an instant success when it debuted in 2006, and even went on to produce two sequels — “High School Musical 2” (2007) and “High School Musical 3” (2008).
Ashley Tisdale Admits She "Never Thought" Zac Efron Was Hot
On a recent episode of the "Not Skinny But Not Fat" podcast, 37-year-old actress Ashley Tisdale, who played Sharpay Evans in "High School Musical", spoke out about her cast mates in the film, even admitting that she "never thought" Zac Efron was hot.
"It's because I was friends with him before the movie," she told Amanda Hirsch. "He was way younger than me. He was like a brother, too."
However, she did admit that Efron looked attractive in 2007 when the "Baywatch" actor took the cover of the popular magazine, Rolling Stone. "I think the one time where I was like, 'Oh, OK. S—. Yeah, he looks hot,' was the Rolling Stone cover," she explained. "I was like, 'Now I understand.'"
Tisdale concluded with, "I think I just knew him too well and had been best friends with him for so long that it's like your brother that you're hanging out with."
Does The “High School Musical” Cast Stay In Touch?
The cast of “High School Musical” have not been together since the third film, “High School Musical 3,” which debuted in 2008, however, they do keep in touch!
37-year-old actress Ashley Tisdale admitted the cast talks from time to time, saying on the Chicks in the Office podcast, “Obviously we are all in different places of life, but the thing about what’s so great about every single one of them is that you can text them and be like ‘hey, I haven’t talked to you in so long’.”
“Lucas [Grabiel] was just texting me like a couple of weeks ago, and we were just chatting, and it’s like time hasn’t passed,” the “High School Musical” star continued.
Tisdale closed out by saying, “They really are all good people and I think that we went through something that was just a really wild time in our lives and so I think that we all kind of remind each other of that.”
A “High School Musical” Reunion?
One original cast member -- Corbin Bleu -- recently returned to the franchise in the third season of the Disney+ original series, “High School Musical: The Musical: The Series,” which has sparked the “High School Musical” showrunner Tim Federle to think about a full reunion.
“So that sort of inspired me to think, ‘What if our kids went back to school and had to be extras in a movie?’ Our show is so absurdly meta, it’s just going to turn into Inception one day. We’re really excited,” he recently said.
Federle continued, “I’m going to chalk that up to being a remarkable coincidence, but we’d love to get Zac and Vanessa and all of them back, so we’re actively working on that right now.”
Some of the original “High School Musical” franchise cast members, including Corbin Bleu (Chad Danforth), Monique Coleman (Taylor McKessie), Lucas Grabeel (Ryan Evans), Bart Johnson (Coach Jack Bolton), Alyson Reed (Ms. Darbus) and Kaycee Stroh (Martha Cox), have been confirmed to join the Disney+ series for the upcoming fourth season.
