The "Creed" franchise returns for another big-screen outing with next year's "Creed III." The next film will see Michael B. Jordan's Adonis Creed matched up against none other than Jonathan Majors, who portrays a ghost from Adonis' past.

MGM Studios dropped the official trailer for the upcoming sequel, which is now available:

Adonis' Old Friend Becomes His New Rival In 'Creed III'

Both of the Marvel Cinematic Universe stars are exchanging their superpowered togs in exchange for boxing gear and gloves for "Creed III." Majors ("Loki," "Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania") portrays an old friend of Adonis, Damian.

When they were children, Damian was sent to prison, while Adonis managed to stay out of jail. Now, it looks like Damian is ready to prove he is a true boxing champion, and he's willing to take away everything that Adonis Creed has earned in order to do it.

It also looks like some time has passed from "Creed II," as Adonis Creed's daughter, Amara, looks to be much older compared to being a newborn infant in the last movie.

Jordan steps behind the director's chair for the upcoming sequel, making his feature directorial debut. The script was written by Keenan Coogler, Ryan Coogler (Marvel's "Black Panther"), and Zach Baylin. The film stars Jordan, Tessa Thompson ("Creed," "Thor: Ragnarok," "Thor: Love and Thunder"), and Florian Munteanu ("Creed II").

Sylvester Stallone appeared to retire the role of Rocky Balboa in the previous film, and he does not look to be appearing in the sequel. Nonetheless, "Creed III" looks like it will be a weighty, emotional, action-packed boxing-themed epic. Not to mention, Jordan and Majors looked to have both gone through intense physical regiments to transform their physiques to portray prize fighters and boxers in this film.

The MCU Stars Will Clash

"Creed III" opens in theaters and IMAX on March 3, 2023. However, ahead of the film's March release, Majors will make his MCU debut as Kang the Conqueror in Marvel's "Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania." Technically, he played an iteration of Kang in Season 1 of Marvel's "Loki," but that was an alternate timeline variant of Kang who referred to himself as "He Who Remains." "Quantumania" marks Majors' first official appearance as the one and only Kang the Conqueror.

Interestingly, he stars in "Creed III" opposite Jordan, who previously appeared in the MCU as the villain Erik Stevens, aka Killmonger, in "Black Panther." Meanwhile, Tessa Thompson has also been a part of the MCU, portraying the character of Valkyrie in multiple films, including "Thor: Ragnarok," "Thor: Love and Thunder," and "Avengers: Endgame."

So, there are multiple MCU connections throughout this production, along with story writer Ryan Coogler, who co-wrote and directed the first "Creed" movie, "Black Panther," and this November's "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever." Coogler's "Wakanda Forever" debuts in theaters on November 11. Meanwhile, "Quantumania," featuring Majors, arrives in theaters shortly before "Creed III" on February 17, 2023.

"Creed II" grossed $115 million domestically and $214 million worldwide, surpassing the takes of the first film, which were $109 million at the US box office and $173.5 million worldwide respectively.
