Tom Brady is not above making some self-deprecating jokes!
As the kickoff date — November 20 — for the 2022 FIFA World Cup draws closer, organizers have given viewers something to enjoy and laugh over. To that end, a star-studded ad starring Brady, Jon Hamm, and Mariah Carey was released on YouTube. Brady's acting skills came through as he managed to steal the spotlight with a joke about Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo's age.
Tom Brady Uses Two-Second Appearance To Shade Cristiano Ronaldo For 'Old Age' In Ad
Brady's cameo appearance occurs after a clip of soccer legend Cristiano Ronaldo scoring a goal is played. The camera then cuts to the "Ted 2" actor watching the game in his kitchen, asking, "He's getting kind of old, isn't he?" before biting on a celery stick.
The joke is a direct reference to the seven-time Super Bowl champion returning for his 23rd NFL season, as he has had to field questions about his age for most of his decades-long career.
As for the ad, the oldest quarterback to win a playoff game record holder is joined by actor Jon Hamm — playing Santa Claus, whose bewilderment at the biggest sporting event in the world happening during the Christmas holidays, kicked things off.
Speaking to his wife, Mrs. Claus — played by actress Ellie Kemper — Santa asked, "What are we standing around for? We've got work to do. We're going to need a ton of stars and lots of sweaters, some freshly baked cookies, and maybe a song."
Once he had accepted that the World Cup would happen during the holidays, Santa got a light bulb moment, wondering about the possibility of having a song to commemorate the event.
It is at this point that Mariah Carey — shown getting glammed up — appeared and said, "Um, do you have any idea how busy I am this time of year?" — a reference to her "All I Want For Christmas Is You" single gaining extra attention and playtime during the festive season.
Although it is unclear when Brady shot the commercial, one thing that seems to add up is the influence Ronaldo might have had on him. The Blast previously reported that a clip of the duo having a heartfelt conversation at the Old Trafford stadium surfaced online.
In the footage, the Manchester United forward asked his Tampa Bay Buccaneers player if he was "finished" with his sports career. The question caused Brady to pause and consider if he was ready to abandon his growing legacy in the National Football League.
By the next day — Sunday, March 13, the then-44-year-old announced that he was coming out of retirement, barely two months after it began.
Brady Pauses Property Construction Amid Divorce Scandal With Model Wife
Since Brady announced his retirement u-turn, the quarterback's relationship with his wife, Gisele Bündchen, has not been smooth. News has even surfaced that their marital woes have allegedly affected other parts of their lives.
Per a weekend update from The Blast, the pair's impending divorce has restricted ongoing works on their South Florida property. A source claimed that even though construction on the lavish mega mansion has been paused for the past few weeks due to Hurricane Ian, Brady and Bündchen's problems did not help. In the words of the insider:
"There is no telling what they will do with what was supposed to be their forever marriage home."
The estranged couple originally purchased the luxury Miami Beach estate property for a whopping $17 million in 2020. They also forked over an extra $10.12 million to contractors to build it to their desired taste.
The mega-mansion is well worth its price as it has numerous amenities such as expansive his-and-hers bathroom suites, a pickleball court, an organic garden, a yoga terrace, a meditation garden, a central kitchen, a prep kitchen, and an outdoor kitchen.
The 1.8-acre property is located in the high-end area of the Indian Creek Country Club community where the uber-wealthy like Ivanka Trump and her husband Jared Kushner, supermodel Adriana Lima, and real estate developer Jeff Soffer live.
The incomplete mansion was supposed to be furnished with three buildings — a two-story main house, a security post, and a spacious gym. The gym house includes a massage room, an exercise terrace, a changing room, and a steam shower.
Other noteworthy features of the luxurious property supposedly include an elevator, a sports court, a movie theater, a study, a hot tub, a pool cabana, a service landing, five bedrooms, and 11 bathrooms.
