Nicolas Cage is seeing red, but this time, it's not an emotion (although, it kind of is if you scroll down for the whole story) but an actual color. If he looks in the mirror that is, given that the 58-year-old actor who almost became Superman once, is sporting a red mop. Despite his goatee remaining a natural brown, Cage is now a redhead, and looking rather good as one.

The man is not exactly a social media aficionado, having a largely defunct Twitter account and he's not on Instagram either, so the pictures we got, were from fan accounts, who took some selfies with the "National Treasure" star, himself.

Almost Superman, But Not Quite

Nicolas Cage may have done plenty of OTT roles, including a scene where he actually ate a cockroach, but the one role, or rather the kind of role that always eluded him was that of a superhero. In fact, he came very close to playing Superman and was even handed out a $20 million payment to do the same, sadly, the movie never took off.

Cage, who was born, Nicolas Kim Coppola has always been a comic book buff and even took his last name from Marvel superhero Luke Cage. He named his own son, Kal-El, after DC’s most famous hero, and the strongest man on Earth, Superman.

There have been some superhero snippets his way, the biggest role being of Marvel anti-hero "Ghost Rider", in 2007 and then again in 2011. However, unlike today's MCU, these movies were never all that well received and trashed rather spectacularly by critics and audiences alike. Later, he also played Big Daddy in the "Kick-Ass" movie, and has also voiced both DC and Marvel in a few series, including Superman for "Teen Titans Go! To The Movies" and Spider-Man Noir in "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse."

Are his red locks an indication of another role? Time will tell as he seems to have an impressive upcoming movie roster.

Despite some troubled years where the "Gone in 60 Seconds" star faced a lot of financial difficulties, given his penchant for spending way too much, Cage seems to have mellowed down. His voice role as Grug in "The Croods" franchise has been well received, as was his 2021 movie, "Pig", where he plays a reclusive truffle hunter whose beloved pet, a pig, has been stolen from him.

And now, fans have spotted him with cherry red hair, and they can't get over it.

In the first picture, a Twitter user posted a picture of Nicolas Cage grinning for the camera, with his hand in the forefront, looking quite dashing. The tweet was captioned, "Just Nic Cage with new Cherry red hair... ...That's it, that's the Tweet..."

We guess that's quite enough, no? Have a look:

When asked if the red hair were real, the same user replied, "Oui" with another picture if Cage with red hair. However, he did not look all that happy in this one.

Nicolas Cage Does Not Have A Poker Face

The red hair is not new, apparently, as the first post of him being a redhead came out more than a month ago, and slipped under the media radar.

An Instagram user and avid poker player spotted many of his poker idols in Vegas, while he was there for a tournament, and one of them turned out to be Nicolas Cage. Apparently, the IG user was too shy to ask many of his poker idols, as he wrote, "Been here in Vegas for the world series for 3 weeks now; have seen so many of my poker idols but have been too gun shy to say hello ask for a photo."

He also wrote, "Saw Nicholas Cage yesterday, thought I’d just go 0-100 and run after him to ask if we can have a selfie. In the most sarcastic voice he replies ‘yeh man, I would loveeeee to take a photo, happy 4th of July’!"

So while Cage did give into the selfie, his expression says it all. Could be that he's acquiring the ill-famed redhead temper, no?

Here's the picture, with Cage glaring daggers at the camera.
