Going to a Kendrick Lamar concert with his dad was a night a young fan won't soon forget. The 9-year-old concertgoer, who was named after the singer, had the most memorable experience at his first ever concert thanks to the singer who singled him out for some encouraging words.

While performing a show in Detroit on Sunday night as part of his "The Big Steppers Tour," Lamar noticed a young fan in the audience holding up a sign that read, "My name is Kendrick. This is my 1st concert. Can We Take a Pic." The performer stopped the show to give a shout out to the young fan and give him some meaningful words of encouragement.

Lamar told the fan to "respect and honor" his parents. "Always honor them, man. They brung you to your first concert. Always respect and honor them," he said. "He continued with an empowering message. "You will forever be great. You're great right now. You can do whatever you wanna put your mind to, you know it? You understand that? Stewart explained in a Tuesday Instagram story why he named his son after the performer. "I named my son after kendrick 9 years ago. I was at a kendrick Lamar concert the moment my son was born!! And for that moment to take place is definitely amazing that the universe came back full circle like that!" His next story slide was asking for some help from his followers. "Can someone help us get on @jimmyfallon show to tell my sons birth story!!!!!"

This Wasn't the First Time the Singer Connected with a Fan

Lamar is known for interacting and connecting with his fans. Last month, a clip of a security guard wiping away tears during a performance of "Love" went viral on TikTok. After that show, Lamar gave the security guard a shoutout in an interview with Jazzy's WorldTV. "It's really just about the feeling of it. At the end of the day, past all the politics, past all the numbers, it's what music makes you feel, how it makes you feel," he told the 12-year-old reporter named Jazzy. "So to see that, and shoutout to him by the way, cause I see him, bro. I was like, 'Man, I wonder what he's going through. But at the end of the day, that's how you want everybody to receive your music and, you know, make them feel good, make them feel like a moment they're attached to, it could live forever."
