'Schitt's Creek' Star Joins Kim Kardashian & Kylie Jenner's Quest To Reform Instagram!

“Schitt’s Creek” creator and star, Dan Levy, wants Instagram to go back to the good ole days of just photos.

Last month, both Kim Kardashian and Kylie Jennermade a public stink about the fact that Instagram is becoming more video based like TikTok.

Over the weekend, Levy made a public video denouncing the social platform.

“So, I know there’s a lot of people complaining about Instagram like just being videos. Um, I’m just gonna contribute a little bit,” Levy started off. “I used to love Instagram being picture exclusive because when I was on Zooms, I’d be able to scroll through Instagram silently and distract myself. Now, I’m getting caught because every time I scroll through Instagram there’s like someone’s voice or a loud bang or a sound.”

He then made a plea to “go back to like being able to distract ourselves while doing other things like in silence.”

And for anyone preparing to go at him about turning his phone on silent… he’s got an answer for that too.

“All those people that are like, ‘You can turn your phone on silent.’ That’s not the point. You’re not getting the point… not getting the point. So, anyway I’ve thought about putting my phone on silent and sometimes I forget,” he concluded.

Levy isn’t alone in his distaste for what the app has become.

Kim and Kylie made separate public complaints about Instagram’s gradual shift to featuring more video-based programming on users’ feeds back in July.

The half-sisters took to the app to express their frustration with its format.

According to a CNBC News report, the Kim and Kylie posted a message that read, “Make Instagram Instagram Again,” adding “Stop trying to be tiktok I just want to see cute photos of my friends.”

The CEO of IG, Adam Mosseri, spoke out following their public outcries.

He said the platform will be shifting to more video-based content over time due to how users are consuming content in 2022.

“We’re going to have to lean into that shift while continuing to support photos,” he said in a video statement.

Well, the “lean in” Mosseri spoke out shifted pretty quick.

The Blast reported that within a few days of his video statement, Instagram halted plans to make the app more video-based.

According to reports, Instagram is halting plans to make the platform more like TikTok.

IG is owned by Facebook’s Meta platform, and it recently rolled out plans to alter its algorithm so users would have more video content fed to them from people outside their circle of friends and followers.

Meta is reportedly under pressure to perform after Facebook reported that it lost users for the first time ever this year.

There’s also been a drop in revenue, which is the first time in its history!

“I’m glad we took a risk – if we’re not failing every once in a while, we’re not thinking big enough or bold enough,” Instagram’s head Mosseri told Platformer. “But we definitely need to take a big step back and regroup. [When] we’ve learned a lot, then we come back with some sort of new idea or iteration. So we’re going to work through that.”

Looks like Levy, Kim and Kylie will now have a paddle to swim up “Schitt’s Creek.”
