There are many accolades that David 'Big Papi' Ortiz has achieved during his career and being inducted to The National Baseball Hall of Fame on July 24th, 2022 may be on top of that list.

But is it possible for Ortiz to be a baseball psychic? The Blast was able to talk to the MLB legend and get his EXCLUSIVE thoughts on who he believes will win the 2022 World Series. And if his predictions come true, it could be his biggest achievement in baseball yet!

The Blast had a chance to speak EXCLUSIVELY to David Ortiz on July 18th in Los Angeles at an event that celebrated his impending Hall of Fame induction and we asked him when he knew he was a Hall of Famer himself, and he joked, "The other day when they called me!" But as he thought about his career he spoke further and not skipping a beat, he got a little more serious and continued, "No, I mean I had a good career you know, when you look at numbers and you look back, and you go and look back at your career, you are like, man, I have a really good chance, but you don't know until you get the phone call. You know what I am saying!"

And Ortiz deserved that phone call and the induction because as they say, numbers don't lie. Ortiz became the first career designated hitter to be selected to the Hall of Fame on his first try to be voted in. During a magical 20-season MLB career, Ortiz had amazing stats that included a whopping 541 homers. In his final season in 2016, he showed he still had it and probably could have played a few more years as he hit an incredible 38 homers and led the league with 127 RBIs.

When Ortiz joined the Boston Red Sox in 2003, they hadn't won a World Series since 1918. The following year of his arrival, they won the World Series and as the years went by, he ended up gaining two more rings with the Red Sox and he even received MVP honors in the World Series in 2013 when he went 11-for-16 at the plate with eight walks over six games against the St. Louis Cardinals. Add that to everything else he did on the field, the lovable Ortiz became a forever legend in Boston.

It more than cemented his status to join Cooperstown to forever be immortalized in MLB history as one of the best to ever do it. Ortiz has since taken his talents to television and has excelled as a MLB studio analyst for FOX Sports. The three time champ now uses his gift of gab to entertain us all and as he is still around the game in such intimacy, so who better to ask on who will win the 2022 World Series than Ortiz, who is a student of the game.

If you are an avid baseball fan, you will see that the current teams to beat are the New York Yankees, Los Angeles Dodgers, Houston Astros, New York Mets, Atlanta Braves and maybe even the Milwaukee Brewers. There is a long list of potential World Series champions and as we get to the end of the MLB trade deadline, other teams may even make strides to be a threat. So it may come as a huge surprise to not all, but many on who Ortiz believes will win the World Series a few months from now.

As The Blast continued with Ortiz, we asked him EXCLUSIVELY on who he thought was going to win the World Series and he had to to think about it as he bought himself some time exclaiming, "World Series?" And his choice is a team that unless they go on a major tear down the stretch and other teams collapse might not even make the playoffs. But Ortiz happily said, "The Red Sox!" It is all well and good that he selected his former team but as of August 2nd, 2022, the team is in a downward spiral and have a current record of 52 wins and 52 losses.

We don't hate his loyalty, but some may be thinking that his prediction is far fetched and almost impossible. Some might even joke to themselves on his selection and say, ''What is he smoking?'' Funny, because we might know the answer!

David 'Big Papi' Ortiz Gets Into The Weed Business

Sweet Sluggers

Now it might not be the Red Sox year, even if Ortiz has their back, but it is definitely Big Papi's year. Joining the Hall of Fame is one thing, but like most athletes who get into other ventures outside the game, it appears Big Papi is getting into what some would call a non-performance enhancing drug venture as he is launching his own line of cannabis products. Produced and sold by Revolutionary Clinics, his first product is a line of pre-rolled blunts called Sweet Sluggers, which as you can see above resemble a baseball bat. What a way to take a hit right? Along for the ride will also be vape cartridges, salves and a chocolate edible made with fair trade Dominican chocolate.

A few days after his amazing acceptance speech, he is getting the ball moving and continuing his career outside of baseball and if all goes well, he is looking to make it as good as it was on the field. What might be a surprise though along with his World Series prediction is that 'Big Papi' is actually doing this venture in the first place as he wasn't always known as a weed connoisseur in his playing days. During a recent "Bradfo Sho" podcast hosted by Red Sox beat writer Rod Bradford, former teammate and pitcher Jonathon Papelbon mentioned Ortiz was against using marijuana saying, “I tried to get (Ortiz) to understand that when you can recover quicker, you’re gonna be better for the next day. I tried to always explain that to him, man. Early on in his career, all he would say is ‘You crazy a** white dude. You redneck crazy, man!’”

But just like Papi's prediction, who is crazy now? Sometimes you have to aim for the fences and hit it out of the park. And if he is right with the Red Sox prediction and if he is right on this new venture with his weed products, he can take it all straight to the bank and then he can head to the Hall of Fame of business and predictions!
