Music legend Elton John believes male artists have a thing or two to learn from their female counterparts in the business. The artist is currently in the middle of his final tour, which will stretch till 2023. The tour is his last one before the 75-year-old leaves the music scene and focuses more on his family.

In a recent interview, Elton talked about his current music taste and admonished male artists for not doing enough. According to him, the women and girl groups were now leading the music scene.

Still, on the topic of music, the "I'm Still Standing" artist highlighted how older artists like himself were currently topping the UK charts and encouraged people to search for music made by younger acts. Elton called the current situation depressing and listed suitable replacements on the charts.

Elton John Said Women Were 'Rocking Out'

Elton just revealed that female artists made his favored brand of music at the moment. The icon graced an interview with Music Week and declared that he thought all-female bands like Haim and The Linda Linda's were "making the best music" right now.

The 75-year-old said, "It's so great to see Nova Twins, Wet Leg, Let's Eat Grandma, The Linda Lindas, Haim and all these girls rocking out and making the best music," Elton did mention one male artist he appreciated at the moment but claimed the rest were simply not doing it.

"Apart from Sam Fender, none of the boys are doing it; the girls are. It's a breath of fresh air because it comes from innocence and pure joy, and that, for me, is what music is about," he added.

The "Rocket Man" artist also talked about the state of the UK Official Charts, claiming that several legacy acts, him included, were charting at the moment. He encouraged streamers to find newer and impressive albums by more recent artists.

Elton explained, "It's lovely to see Kate Bush at No. 1, but there's not many good records in the Top 20. And the albums chart is full of things like me, ABBA and Queen. The odd thing comes through, like Sam Fender or Harry Styles, or you get a new artist coming in at No. 3 and then disappearing to 80-something."

He claimed that the lack of new popular music was "depressing" and proceeded to list the artists of albums he thought were good. "It's depressing," Elton lamented. "There are a lot of good albums that deserve to be in the albums chart, like Juanita Euka, Sharon Van Etten, Angel Olsen. What I want to know is why aren't they there? Because of people like me!"

He Said Dua Lipa Is 'Charming'

Further in the interview, Elton talked about his experience working with Dua Lipa and the "One Kiss" singer's artistry. The duo recently collaborated on a song, "Cold Heart (PNAU Remix).

The 75-year-old said, "She's so professional, so charming and right on the money. It was easy peasy. She's got everything there is to have as a female artist. She's bright, modest and not carried away by her own success. I loved working with her."

Elton John Is On His Final Tour

Elton is currently in the process of bidding his long and successful music career a final farewell. The singer put together a farewell tour to say goodbye.

The tour was announced earlier in 2018; however, it got pushed forward due to an injury he sustained and the COVID restrictions.

According to the new schedule, the show will run until 2023, after which Elton will step away to take some time off with David Furnish, his husband, and his two sons. He will reportedly play in Newcastle, Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane in Australia. Christchurch in New Zealand was also scheduled for January 2023.

Elton recently thanked his loyal fans for their kindness throughout his career. During his Norwich show in England, the singer said, "Tonight is the 229th show on the Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour; we have about 103 shows. It's been quite a journey, and it all ends next July."

He continued, "But I want to thank you because I won't be playing here again. I want to thank you for all the memories, all the love you've sent me, all the loyalty, the kindness, the letters, the dressing up, the costumes, the multiple shows you've been to."
