Alanis Morissette's hit song, ''You Oughta Know" means something different for every single person who has heard it. We all have listened to the song, sang the song and probably have referenced an ex while thinking of the song.

But we never have heard the story about when 'Full House' star and ex boyfriend Dave Coulier first heard it and realized it was likely about him. But now that has all changed as he finally spilled the beans about his reaction when he heard it himself for the first time.

Alanis Morissette's revenge hit "You Oughta Know," is a song that has been forever rumored to be about Dave Coulier. The reason people believe that to be the case is that the former couple dated in the 90's but broke things off before she released her monster album "Jagged Little Pill." Though many believe, including Coulier himself is the person that the song is based on, Morissette has never revealed that to be the case.

Back in 2020, in an interview with Stellar Magazine she shared her thoughts on it all saying, "I didn't write that song to seek actual revenge. I'm all about revenge fantasy, revenge as art – go for it.  I'm not about formal acting out of revenge." She continued that it was all fantasy as she continued, ''Just like I'm not anger. I love anger; I'm not into punching someone in the face. I'm about revenge fantasy; I'm not about smashing up someone's car." To her as a parent, ''It's an important distinction to make as a mum."

Thankfully for Coulier, she has lived by that edict and has never gone after him physically to get her revenge or has conformed it is about him. Morissette insists that she will never reveal who the song is about even adding, ''I wouldn't be clamoring to take credit for being the person who inspired that song! But I guess they don't care?'"

She also told Andy Cohen on "Watch What Happens Live" back in 2019, that Coulier wasn't the person the song was about saying, "No revealing, but I am intrigued with the thought, or the fact that more than one person is seeking credit for it. There's something like six people that have taken credit for it, and I just think, if you're gonna take credit for a song where I'm singing about someone being a douche or an asshole, you might not want to say, 'Hey, that's me!'"

But Coulier doesn't see it that way as he has told his side of the story that the lyrics hit very close to home for him. And now he is reacting to the first time he heard the song and why he feels bad.

Dave Coulier Finally Reacts To Alanis Morissette's "You Oughta Know"

During the latest episode of SiriusXM Faction Talk’s Jim Norton & Sam Roberts, Coulier finally revealed what he was feeling at the time the song came out and he was very forthcoming saying, “Here's the story. I'm driving in Detroit and I've got my radio on, and I hear the hook for ‘You Oughta Know’ come on the radio. And I'm like, wow, this is a really cool hook. And then I start hearing the voice. I'm like, wow, this girl can sing. And I had no idea, you know, that this was the record. And then I was listening to the lyrics going, "Ooh, oh no! Oh, I can't be this guy." And I went to the record store, bought the CD and I went and I parked on a street and I listened to the whole record. And there was a lot of familiar stuff in there that her and I had talked about. Like “your shake is like a fish." I'd go, "Hey, dead fish me," and we'd do this dead fish handshake. And so I started listening to it and I thought, "Ooh, I think I may have really hurt this woman."

He continued, "And that was my first thought. And so years later we reconnected and she couldn't have been sweeter. And I said, "What do you want me to say when people ask me about this relationship?" And she said, you can say whatever you want. So she was really sweet about it. She was kind. I'll tell you the kind of person she is. When my sister Sharon was dying with cancer, Alanis was living in Toronto. My sister was in Detroit. She actually drove to Detroit with her guitar and sat with my sister playing songs and singing to my sister in the hospital. That's the kind of human being she is. So I've never had anything bad to say about her. She's lovely.”

So whomever is telling the truth between them both, the story has lasted a lifetime and it is nice to see that they are both at a good place with each other and if anything, we are closer to the truth. So until more is said, this is all we oughta know.
