Actress Courteney Cox is reprising her role as Gale Weathers for “Scream 6.”

The news reporter wasn’t featured much in the highly anticipated “Scream 5” to give a host of new characters some time in the spotlight. However, Gale and Sidney Prescott, played by star Neve Campbell, showed up to take on Ghostface and save the day.

Sadly, Neve won’t be returning for the next “Scream” movie, which means Gale might have to go this one solo.

Although fans are eager to see Gale Weathers and Sidney Prescott take on Ghostface together, Neve Campbell revealed in early June that a contract dispute left her on the cutting room floor for "Scream 6."

As reported by Deadline, Campbell said, “Sadly I won’t be making the next Scream film” in early June.

Although the global franchise has grossed over $744 million dollars, Neve felt that their offer "did not equate to the value" she has brought to the "Scream" movies.

“As a woman, I have had to work extremely hard in my career to establish my value, especially when it comes to Scream,” she continued. “I felt the offer that was presented to me did not equate to the value I have brought to the franchise.”

“It’s been a very difficult decision to move on,” she continued. “To all my Scream fans, I love you. You’ve always been so incredibly supportive to me.”

Campbell added, “I’m forever grateful to you and to what this franchise has given me over the past 25 years.”

At the time, an inside source told The Blast that directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett will need to make some changes to the script, as they had been counting on her to return.

Although the plot of the new chapter in the franchise has yet to be unmasked, Deadline reported that the new film “continues with the four survivors of the Ghostface killings as they leave Woodsboro behind and start a fresh chapter.”

Back in May, Cox told Entertainment Tonight that the script for "Scream 6" is "a really good one," saying, "I don't know about contracts and where things are, but I'll tell you in the script — it's a really good one."

"You actually have to be killed if you talk about it, so I'm not gonna say anything," she jokingly added.

However, now that it's confirmed that Neve Campbell won't be making a return to the film, it looks like they'll have to cut Sidney Prescott out of the film entirely. Although it isn't clear what the script looks like now, many fans are excited to see Gale take the spotlight.

“Scream 6” is currently filming in Canada. The film is expected to be released in the spring of 2023.
