Actress Hayden Panettiere is headed back to Woodsboro!

Or, maybe not, since it's starting to like the latest movie in the Scream franchise might not even take place in Woodsboro.

Deadline revealed that Hayden will be back to reprise her character of Kirby Reed, who somehow managed to survive Ghostface in Scream 4.

Fans of Scream 5 have good reason to rejoice. James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick are returning to co-write the screenplay. Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, from a filmmaking collective known as Radio Silence, will return to direct the latest feature in the Spyglass Media and Paramount Pictures’ horror franchise.

The two companies brought the slasher series back from the dead last January with massive success. The film earned more than $81 million dollars at the domestic box office and took home more than $140 million dollars worldwide.

Esther Zuckerman of Thrillist wrote, “The challenge for any Scream movie is whether it can comment on tropes while still subverting them, and 2022’s incarnation succeeds by tossing a cheeky middle finger to its fans but still lovingly embracing them.”

Olly Richards of Time Out called the movie, “Inventive, incisive and full of affection for the originals, this is easily the most fun the series has been since Scream 2.”

Peter Travers of ABC news wrote, “Way fiercer and funnier than a fourth sequel has any right to be. Here’s ‘Scream’ for a new generation – so self-aware that it mocks itself for relying on borrowed inspiration while squeezing the golden goose for one last payoff.”

Hasitha Fernando of Flickering Myth called the movie “A well-crafted slasher featuring riveting performances, filled with enough thrills, spills, and chills that would even make Wes Craven proud.”

No release date for the next Scream movie has yet to be announced.
