The author further revealed that while she found him attractive, she had never been a "homewrecker" and was consciously trying "really hard not to be one." "I've had the opportunity to be a homewrecker, and I have not taken anybody on it," she said. "That's really where I meet men; they're all married men to friends of mine or something like that."

The host, Handler, concurred, admitting that the lure to get into an affair was sometimes "very tempting" mainly because people tended to think the relationships their interests were in were temporary.

Martha took the conversation further by joking that she sometimes hoped her friends would die so their husbands could be available for romantic relationships. "Or maybe they'll die," the 80-year-old said. "I always think, 'Oh gosh, couldn't that person just die?' Not painfully, just die. But it hasn't worked out."

The author's daughter, Alexia, was a product of her marriage with Andrew. After the former couple called it quits on their marriage, he reportedly obtained a court order that prevented Martha from speaking to him. He then went on to get married to her previous assistant, Robyn Fairclough.

Not long after her divorce from ex-husband Andrew, Martha was publicly romantically linked to Hopkins; however, the relationship ended for the most unexpected reason. Hopkins, known for his acting prowess, is most notable for his role in "The Silence of the Lamb" as the convicted cannibal, Dr. Hannibal Lecter.

His outstanding performance in the 90s horror film only served to bring his relationship with Martha to an end. The 80-year-old appeared in an episode of "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" and revealed that his performance in the movie scared her.

Martha said, "I have a big scary house in Maine that's way by itself on 100 acres in the forest, and I couldn't even imagine taking Anthony Hopkins there. All I could think of him was eating… you know."
