Disgraced Netflix star Jerry Harris is going to prison for over a decade.
The former Navarro cheerleader who rose to fame on Netflix’s “Cheer” will spend 12 years behind bars in his child pornography case
He was originally facing up to 50 years behind bars, and federal prosecutors recommended Harris spend 15 years locked up.
On Wednesday, July 6, a judge announced the lengthy sentence and a slew of his friends and family members read statements about his character.
Jerry Harris Will Spend 12 Years In Prison In Child Pornography Case
The ex-cheerleader pleaded guilty to one count of receipt of child pornography and one count of traveling with the intent to engage in illicit sexual conduct.
Harris was first charged in September 2020 when the FBI raided his Naperville, IL. home and charged him with producing child pornography.
Jerry Plead Guilty To One Count Of Receipt Of Child Pornography
According to authorities, Harris was soliciting sex from minors at cheer competitions and coercing teenage boys to send him inappropriate photos.
Per court reports, this past February the “Cheer” star pled guilty to two charges of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old in the bathroom at a cheer competition and paying a 17-year-old to send him sexually explicit photos and videos via Snapchat.
TMZ’s fed sources report that “Harris has been ordered into eight years to pay $35,000 into AVAA crime victim funds, along with court-supervised release after imprisonment.”
He was denied bail while awaiting trial. Prosecutors argued the former reality TV star might prey on minors if he was released on bond.
Harris’ prison fate is very similar to that of Josh Duggar.
The former “19 Kids and Counting” was also sentenced to 12 years behind bars earlier this year in his own child pornography case.
The Blast reported in May that the former reality star was found guilty on child pornography charges that included downloading a collection of “the sickest of the sickest” child pornography.
US District Judge Timothy Brooks announced Josh’s sentence at the end of the hearing in May.
Josh & Jerry Have Similar Prison Sentences
During the sentencing hearing, Judge Brooks told Josh’s wife, Anna Duggar, that “the images were some of the worst that this court has ever encountered.”
This sentiment was echoed by the press, which described the images and videos found on Duggar’s laptop as some of the worst child pornography ever seen.
Prior to his sentencing, Judge Brooks denied several motions by his defense team that argued it was an unfair trial since Josh had remained in custody while waiting for his sentence.
Josh was found guilty of possessing and receiving child pornography in December 9, 2021. Duggar has had previous issues concerning child pornography and molestation that led to the end of his reality TV series with his family.
His life behind bars won’t be as intense as what you see in shows like “90 Days In” or “Scared Straight.”
Rather, Duggar is in a low-security federal prison living out his 12-year sentence.
He has a strict set of rules to abide by while in prison.
The oldest Duggar child will have to be up and at ‘em with his bed made military-style by 7:30 AM on weekdays.
He will also be required to complete daily chores such as sweeping, cleaning floors and walls, and emptying the trash.
Josh will be given five shirts, five sets of underwear, one pair of shoes, five pairs of pants, one belt, and five pairs of socks that must remain clean and tagged with the inmate’s name and registrar number.
If this is not upheld, he faces discipline.
What might be an even bigger pill to swallow for Josh is the curfews implemented on game, TV and recreational time.
The outlet reports that the low-security prison where he’s serving time has a strict policy regarding quiet hours.
Inmates must stop all loud talking, card, domino and game playing at 9:15 PM. They must return to their rooms by 11 PM and all noise, including TVs, must be off by midnight.
Josh will be able to take up a job while in prison. He could be a painter, welder, landscaper or food server.
