Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani was the victim of an alleged assault over the weekend.

Giuliani was the mayor of NYC from 1994 to 2001, long before he became the lawyer for former President Donald Trump and a contestant on the Fox celebrity guessing game show, "The Masked Singer."

According to the New York Post, Giuliani was inside a grocery store when he was assaulted by an employee who was working at the time.

While he was on Staten Island campaigning for his son, Andrew Giuliani, the 78-year-old politician claims he was attacked by a ShopRite employee. Apparently, several witnesses were there to witness what is being called an assault, as per law enforcement officials.

The incident took place at the ShopRite supermarket on Veterans Road in Staten Island. Eyewitness Rita Rugova-Johnson told The Post that she was “stunned” to see the incident as it happened.

“I was shoulder-to-shoulder with Rudy inside ShopRite,” Rugova-Johnson explained. “We’re talking, and all of a sudden an employee came out of nowhere and open-handedly slapped him in the back and said, ‘Hey, what’s up, scumbag?’

“[The attacker] was on duty at the time,” she added. “The cops arrested him.”

Earlier this year, Rudy Giuliani was a contestant on the Fox guessing game show, known as "The Masked Singer," where costumed celebrities sing their hearts out on stage for a chance to become the season's victor.

His unmasking was spoiled long before he appeared on the show, as Deadline reported that judge Ken Jeong had stormed off the stage before the season had even begun. In late April, Giuliani sang only one song - “Bad to the Bone” - while dressed as a giant Jack-In-The-Box before he was selected for elimination.

None of the judges were able to guess him correctly, and some of the judges seemed in total disbelief that Rudy Giuliani could even be standing on "The Masked Singer" stage. After his unmasking, shocked judge Nicole Scherzinger asked, “Is that Robert Duvall?”

“No,” Ken replied. “No, that’s not Robert Duvall.” Ken stood with his arms across his chest while judges Robin Thicke and Jenny McCarthy-Wahlberg smiled and clapped.

“This is definitely something I never would have guessed,” Thicke said.

Host Nick Cannon told the former member of Donald Trump’s legal team, “Mr. Giuliani, with all of the controversy that’s surrounding you right now, I think it surprises us all that you’re here on The Masked Singer.”

“Me too,” Giuliani replied before explaining his reason for appearing on the show. “I guess the main reason is, I just had a granddaughter Grace, and I want her to know that you should try everything, even things that are completely unlike you and unlikely.”

After Giuliani started singing “Bad to the Bone” one last time, Ken murmured, “I’m done” as he turned around and headed off stage. Robin Thicke was nowhere to be seen as Nicole and Jenny danced and sang along with Giuliani.

Although it was reported that both Ken and Robin stormed off stage in protest, an inside source told PEOPLE that only Jeong was upset, and Thicke merely left to check on his friend.

"Ken was super upset and indeed stormed out," the source told the publication. "Robin actually followed him because he and Ken are very close friends and he wanted to check on him. Robin didn't storm out because of Giuliani."
