Cardi B Defends Herself Against Onslaught of Lizzo Fans

Cardi B is saying “I DON'T like it like that” to a Lizzo fan.

The “WAP” rapper recently responded to some online criticism amid Lizzo’s “Grrrls” lyric controversy.

Earlier this week, we reported the “Good As Hell” singer issued an apology about her new song “Grrrls” and the use of a ableist slur.

In the original version of the song Lizzo used the term “spaz,” which is derived from the word “spastic.”

“Spastic” is defined as: relating to or denoting a form of "muscular weakness (spastic paralysis) typical of cerebral palsy, caused by damage to the brain or spinal cord and involving reflex resistance to passive movement of the limbs and difficulty in initiating and controlling muscular movement."

An “ableist slur” is defined as “treating people unfairly because they have a disability,” according to the Cambridge Dictionary.

Lizzo’s use of the word sparked outrage among her fans and the disabled community.

She issued an apology earlier this week in which she said, “It’s been brought to my attention that there is a harmful word in my new song ‘GRRRLS.’ Let me make on thing clear: I never want to promote derogatory language. As a fat black woman in America, I’ve had many hurtful words used against me so I overstand the power words can have (whether intentionally or in my case, unintentionally).”

Lizzo went ahead and changed the lyrics to omit the use of “spaz.”

“I’m proud to say there’s a new version of GRRRLS with a lyric change. This is the result of m e listening and taking action,” her statement continued. “As an influential artist I’m dedicated to being part of the change I’ve been waiting to see in the world. Xoxo, Lizzo.”

Her fanbase was very appreciative of the change, but there were a few who defended Lizzo and called out Cardi B.

One Twitter user by the handle @FeministaJones took this as an opportunity to call the “Bodak Yellow” rapper out for getting away with using offensive language.

Feminista Jones tweeted, “Cardi is slim and light-skinned. She will often ‘get away’ with more than other women, especially those who look like Lizzo, will. That’s the world we live in. People may get mad but I don’t care lol Colorism and fatphobia shape SO MANY reactions and extensions of ‘grace.’”

The tweet has since been deleted from social media, but not before Cardi could get her eyes on it and respond.

Cardi clapped back directly to FJ writing, “Ya will do mental gymnastics to include me in anything that people are getting dragged for …People have called me out for plenty of s**t.”

Her thoughts didn’t stop there.

“Yall do it every week SOMETHINGS I apologize for & some things I will tell y’all TO SUCK D**K & personally If I was Lizzo I would of said ‘SMD,’” she concluded.

The Bardi gang was quick to defend her in the comments section.

“Tell them queen,” one fan replied.

Another wrote, “Cardi a QUEEN ???.”

“And that’s why I love ya.. you don’t bow down to anyone,” a supportive fan tweeted.
