Tom Hiddleston Confirms Engagement To Zawe Ashton: 'I'm Very Happy'

Actor Tom Hiddleston is most definitely engaged!

The "Loki" actor recently confirmed to the Los Angeles Times that the rumors are true and he DID propose to his 2019 West End revival of Harold Pinter's "Betrayal" costar, Zawe Ashton, back in March.

Due to his highly publicized 2016 relationship with singer Taylor Swift, the Marvel actor didn't seem to want to open up too much about his new relationship. However, he did tell the publication "I'm very happy" when discussing his new romance.

As The Blast previously reported, rumors of their engagement started at the 2022 BAFTA ceremony when red carpet host AJ Odudu shared a photo of Ashton wearing a massive diamond ring. As the two walked the red carpet together, eagle-eyed fans noticed that the "Velvet Buzzsaw" actress purposely hid her left hand between the folds of her dress as she walked alongside her soon-to-be husband in a long pink cape.

Later on in the night, the couple met Odudu, who snapped a photo of the couple. In the picture, which can be seen below, it looks like Ashton is wearing a giant diamond engagement ring on that finger.

In the caption, Odudu wrote, "Fun BAFTA bits kicking off with @britishvogue X @tiffanyandco. I needed a Berroca & a hug yesterday."

However, nothing in the caption confirmed that they got engaged until Hiddleston confirmed it in mid-June to the Los Angeles Times. As previously stated, the couple is notoriously private about their love life. They only confirmed their relationship after the paparazzi caught them in a steamy PDA session during their vacation to Ibiza last September. They made their first public red carpet debut as a couple at the Tony Awards, which were hosted in New York.

Back in March, The Blast also shared that the couple had started living together in a new apartment in Atlanta, Georgia. Sources close to the couple shared that they are "very well suited and enjoy the quieter side of life."

One source told The Sun, "Tom and Zawe have stayed quiet about their relationship, but she has spent the last few weeks with him in the US. They are very well suited and enjoy the quieter side of life away from the glitz and glamour of the showbiz world."

The source also shared that Hiddleston wanted to keep their relationship private due to the attention he received from fans after his public relationship with the "All Too Well" singer Taylor Swift.

The two met at the 2016 Met Gala and started dating after Swift called it quits with Calvin Harris. Although they met each other's families right away, the two called it quits approximately three months after they started dating.

"Tom really has fallen for Zawe in a big way," the source added. "But he is so paranoid about his private life since his relationship with Taylor that he has gone to great lengths to keep this under wraps."

Hiddleston had spoken briefly about his relationship with Swift to the New York Times after they called it quits, saying, "Yes, I'm protective about my internal world now in probably a different way. That's because I didn't realize it needed protecting before."

Elsewhere in the interview with the L.A. Times, Hiddleston dished on what it's like to play Loki in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

“I love playing Loki, have loved playing him every time,” Hiddleston said. “In every story, there’s been a different iteration, a different director, a different spin on the ball, if you like.”

“If you take away everything that the character knows and understands, what remains?” Hiddleston asked. “Something will be revealed to us and to Loki about who he is. This idea of him undergoing an almost psychoanalytical interrogation with the TVA’s Mobius, played by Owen Wilson, and being confronted with repetitive patterns of destructive behavior, which only resulted in his loss and loneliness, I found to be extremely exciting.”

“In my research into the character and the ancient stories, Loki’s identity has always been fluid in his gender and sexuality,” Hiddleston added. “It was a privilege to touch on it this time. I’m aware it’s a small step and there’s further to go, but I hope that people felt represented by it.”
