Actress Neve Campbell just dashes the hopes of fans everywhere when she revealed that she will not be reprising her role as Sidney Prescott for the highly anticipated “Scream 6” horror movie. The release date hasn’t yet been announced, but the cast has slowly been growing.
But the star of the “Scream” franchise revealed on Monday, June 6, that she will NOT be returning to the horror franchise that turned her character into a living legend.
Neve Campbell Backs Out Of ‘Scream 6’ & Fans Are SHOOK!
As reported by Deadline, Campbell made it clear that her character won’t be on the chopping block in the next “Scream” film.
“Sadly I won’t be making the next Scream film,” she said on Monday, which immediately got social media buzzing.
“As a woman, I have had to work extremely hard in my career to establish my value, especially when it comes to Scream,” she continued. According to Deadline, the global franchise has grossed over $744 million dollars since it began.
She explained, “I felt the offer that was presented to me did not equate to the value I have brought to the franchise.” In other words, she felt the contract was too low and decided to pass on the project.
“It’s been a very difficult decision to move on,” she said. “To all my Scream fans, I love you. You’ve always been so incredibly supportive to me.”
Campbell added, “I’m forever grateful to you and to what this franchise has given me over the past 25 years.”
Although fans are going to be sad to see her go, Campbell has plenty on her plate as it is. She currently stars in the Netflix series “The Lincoln Lawyer” and just joined the cast of Peacock’s “Twisted Metal” series in the role of Raven. Marvel’s Anthony Mackie, Thomas Haden Church, and Stephanie Beatriz are all attached to that project as well.
How Is There Going To Be A ‘Scream’ Movie Without Sidney Prescott?
An inside source told The Blast that there are going to be a lot of changes that need to be made to the script, as directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett had apparently been counting on her to return. This might delay the finished product if they need to start the script from scratch.
Yesterday, Tori Spelling told The Blast exclusively that she wanted to be in the upcoming “Scream” movie while promoting her new podcast, 9021OMG on iHeartRadio.
When The Blast asked Spelling if she would be down to appear in the next film at the iHeartRadio Wango Tango concert on June 4th, she said “I hope so.” When asked if she’d really take part in the film if the phone started ringing, she replied, “Of course.”
Although fans would love to see her in “Scream 6,” fans are also looking forward to seeing the return of actress Hayden Panettiere, who will be reprising her character of Kirby Reed from “Scream 4.”
Back in March, Courtney Cox (Gale Weathers) couldn’t wait to share the news that she was ready to return. The four actors and actresses who managed to survive “Scream 5” will all be making their return: Melissa Barrera, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Mason Gooding, and Jenna Ortega.
Although the plot of the new chapter in the franchise has yet to be unmasked, Deadline reported that the new film “continues with the four survivors of the Ghostface killings as they leave Woodsboro behind and start a fresh chapter.”
But will things still be the same without Neve Campbell? That's the real question, and sadly, it seems like a while before fans will get any answers.
