ABC's breakout sitcom success of the season "Abbot Elementary" has received lots of praise for the way in which the show poignantly portrays the lives and situations affecting teachers and students at inner-city schools.
However, the series will not explore one of the most unfortunate constants of modern life in the classroom.
Quinta Brunson, who wears many hats at "Abbot Elementary" as the series' showrunner and as a writer, spoke out on Twitter yesterday, responding to requests for the series to focus on school shootings.
Brunson's Twitter thread was written one day after the tragic shooting at Robb Elementary School in Texas, where 19 children and two teachers lost their lives. (via ABC).
"I Can't Ask 'Are Y'all Okay' Anymore Because The Answer Is 'No.'"
wild how many people have asked for a school shooting episode of the show I write. people are that deeply removed from demanding more from the politicians they've elected and are instead demanding "entertainment." I can't ask "are yall ok" anymore because the answer is "no."

Brunson was frank when addressing those viewers who have expressed wishes for the series to feature a storyline where the students and staff of "Abbot Elementary" endure the devastation of a shooting.
According to Deadline, Brunson tweeted, "Wild how many people have asked for a school shooting episode of the show I write. People are that deeply removed from demanding more of the politicians they've elected and are instead demanding 'entertainment."
Brunson ended her thread with a question for those viewers. "I can't ask 'are y'all okay' anymore because the answer is 'no.'"
What Are Other Cast Members Saying?
Brunson is not the only cast member- she also plays the series' lead character, Janine Teagues- of "Abbot Elementary" to comment on Tuesday's tragic events.
According to the Los Angeles Times, Sheryl Lee Ralph (Mrs. Howard) tweeted, "Where is the love for Americas children?!? Why do we not care about #GunViolence?"
The outlet reported Ralph also tweeted "Now I lay me down to sleep and all I can think about is the families who lost a child today in another senseless act of gun violence! When will enough be ENOUGH?!?!"
Lisa Ann Walter, who plays Melissa Schemmenti, directly pleased to elected officials in her tweets.
She addressed Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer with a request to "Bring a STRICT #GUNCONTROL Bill to a floor vote THIS WEEK. THIS WEEK. Let's see who votes it down this week. Do it."
Walter continued to let her feelings be known in another tweet where she continued to express her frustration toward a need for quicker action from lawmakers.
She tweeted "I am ANGRY. I plan on waking up angry. I will stay angry through Nov."
Walter was referring to the United States' midterm election, which takes place on November 8th.
