'Abbott Elementary' Follows A Group Of Teachers

The series follows the experiences of passionate and dedicated teachers who come together in a Philadelphia elementary public school to help their young students succeed in life.

Despite a slightly tone-deaf principal, they struggle to impact each student, children with no interest in being taught, lack of funds, and a school district with very little interest in educating children.

These incredible public servants are played by Brunson, Tyler James Williams, Lisa Ann Walter, Chris Perfetti, and Sheryl Lee Ralph. Brunson also serves as a writer and co-executive producer alongside Justin Halpern, Patrick Schumacker, and Randall Einhorn.

Einhorn also directed the pilot and most of the episodes from season one. Abbott Elementary is produced by Warner Bros Television and 20th Television and streams on ABC and Hulu.

The Renewal Came Via The Principal’s Note

The renewal announcement was eerily similar to that of Netflix’s Bridgerton, in which Lady Whistledown announced there would be a second season via a special edition of her society paper.

For Abbott Elementary, the tone-deaf Principal Ava Coleman (played by Janelle James) revealed there would be a season two through a mostly narcissistic note to the “Faculty and Students (aka My Fans”).

Part of the note read, “With that said, it is with great pleasure that I announce they’ll be returning for the 2022-2023 school year! That’s right- Abbott Elementary Season Two is coming to a screen near you.” Fans went crazy upon the announcement, and there is plenty of excitement about what season two will bring.

Season One Of 'Abbott Elementary' Was A Huge Success

The renewal announcement wasn’t much of a surprise because the quirky workplace comedy quickly became ABC’s ratings and social media star. The show is currently the network’s number one comedy for adults 18-49 in two years.

It is also tied for the number one comedy for adults 18-49 with CBS’ Ghosts, which has also been renewed for a second season. The premiere of Abbott Elementary was the first ABC comedy show debut to attain quadruple ratings after 35 days of multi-platform viewing.

Its January 4th premiere has also amassed more than nine million total viewers and a 2.93 rating in adults 18-49. It is now ABC’s strongest comedy telecast of a new or returning series among adults 18-49, replacing the April 8th, 2020, series finale of the famous Modern Family.
