Actor Johnny Depp will reportedly take the stand on Monday as his defamation trial against ex-wife Amber Heard continues.

The couple has been facing each other at the Fairfax County Circuit Court for most of the past month. The “Pirates of the Caribbean” actor is suing his ex-wife for $50 million over a December 2018 op-ed Heard wrote for the Washington Post where she claims that she is a domestic violence survivor. Although she did not mention Depp by name, he claims that he has lost movie roles due to the “clear implication” that he was her abuser. Heard claims that she has also been losing out on movie roles, including several scenes from the upcoming “Aquaman” sequel, and is countersuing for $100 million dollars.

Over the weekend, Deadline reported that Depp will be called by the defense as the third witness to take the stand on Monday, May 23. Depp will reportedly follow both an anatomy expert and an IPV expert as they give their testimony to support Heard’s claims.

It is believed that this is the last week of the trial, with Judy Penney Azcarte previously saying that closing arguments should occur on Friday, May 27. The jury had previously been off on Friday. The jury did not usually meet on Friday throughout the month, but it seems that things are quickly drawing to a close.

It’s not clear how long it will take for the jury to make a decision in this case, given the years of evidence that they will have to sort through. The jury has seen evidence of bruises on both parties, as well as heard audio footage of screaming, cursing, loud arguments, and what seems to be admissions of what can be deemed “toxic” behavior on all sides.

In the court of public opinion, however, it seems that Depp is clearly winning. Last Thursday, a social media expert witness called by the defense witness said, that of a sample of millions of tweets that he collected that included the hashtag #JusticeForJohnnyDepp, “all of them” had negative things to say about Amber Heard.

“We had a romantic relationship,” she testified. “Actually, can we change that to 'sexual'?”

Barkins claimed that she and Depp engaged in sexual encounters at least three to four times a week for about three to six months. During the time, she alleged that Depp was “drunk all the time… most of the time… a lot of the time,” adding that Depp was “always drinking, smoking a joint.” She claimed he also used cocaine and hallucinogens.

When they were in Vegas, Barkin testified that Depp once threw a wine bottle across the room during an argument either with an assistant or a friend. Although the bottle did not hit anyone, she said that he threw it in the direction of her and those standing around her.

“I don’t know why he threw the bottle,” she said, adding that Depp was the one who called off their relationship. She testified that Depp was often jealous and controlling and described “don’t do this, don’t do that” behavior from Depp.

“He’s just a jealous man,” she testified, recalling a time that Depp got “very, very angry” after he saw a scratch on her back. She claimed that Depp accused her of cheating on him with another man. In addition to being jealous, she also described his behavior as “angry” and “demanding” at times.

Depp's longtime friend and bandmate Bruce Witkin also took the stand to testify on Thursday morning in a video deposition recorded on February 17, 2022.

Witkin testified that Heard was always "very nice" to him. Shortly after, he was asked if Depp was a jealous person. Witkin responded, "He always had a jealous streak in him," and revealed that Depp worried Heard was cheating on him when she was filming movies "with other men."

Apparently, his jealous streak did not just pertain to his romantic relationships. Witkin said that Depp was also jealous of other actors and called "Pig" actor Nicolas Cage out by name.
