Robin Roberts recently opened up about the breast cancer diagnosis of her partner of seventeen years, Amber Laign, sharing the challenges she faces as she cares for her sweetheart.

The couple has been romantically linked since 2005, but Roberts went public about her same-sex relationship in 2013.

The longtime "Good Morning America" anchor sat down with Ellen DeGeneres on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show," where she updated fans on Laign's condition and gave advice on medical checkups.

The show's host took a moment to ask about Laign's breast cancer diagnosis and how hard it had been on Roberts. "I never talked about it much, but with you, I will," the "Jeopardy" host replied and then added:

"She is doing well, which is great. And just what you said, I went through it twice, barely shed a tear. I'm a puddle every time I think about what Amber is going through, but she is being so courageous and is handling it extremely well."

She further mentioned she was able to provide a "road map" to her lover with her experience as a cancer survivor.

In addition, Roberts believes Laign guides her on being a "caregiver" and admitted that she did not realize how much she had "blocked out" during the trying journey.

Roberts further stated her loving partner protected her and navigated for her, so she was reciprocating the affectionate gesture. The guest star explained:

"Like many people, [Laign] had put off going to the doctor during the pandemic, and in the last year, she followed through with a regular exam, and it was discovered. So the message is, get those regular exams; it can save your life. And thankfully, the prognosis is good for her."

Earlier this month, The Blast reported that Roberts brought new details to light about her sweetheart's condition, revealing that Laign had to temporarily suspend treatment due to medical hitches.

In an interview with ET, the television broadcaster stated, "She had some complications with the chemotherapy. They're working it out. We're gonna figure it out. The prognosis is still very good."

She admitted that Laign was discouraged about the hindrance in her treatment, but she was able to help the therapist overcome the challenging moments.

"I was able to tell her, as most people [who] have gone through cancer [know], this happens. There are peaks and valleys, and we went through a valley, but it's more of a peak right now, and I'm just grateful for all the love and support that she's receiving," Roberts elaborated.

Her book "Brighter by the Day" also motivated her to push through the difficult period as the write-up was "a guide to instilling hope and optimism into readers' lives."

The ABC star said, "I was struggling, and then I was thinking, 'Robin, you have this book. You're talking to people about their valleys and how to get out of it, and so, why don't you just actually listen to your own words?'"

She eventually followed her book's help and developed the mindset to believe she had the strength to help Laign while introducing "positivity and encouragement" into their lives.

The 2012 Peabody Awardee Shares News Of Partner's Cancer Diagnosis

The year did not seem to start so well for Roberts as she announced her partner's breast cancer diagnosis in February, revealing that the chemotherapy process had begun.

The Blast reported that she shared a video on Twitter where she broke the sad news, saying:

"My sweet Amber wanted me to tell you something that she's been facing. At the end of last year, Amber was diagnosed with breast cancer."

Surgery began the previous month, and fortunately, the prognosis was good. So, it seemed things did not look so dire.

Roberts thanked her lover and her lover's close friends and family for respecting their privacy and keeping the news private until Laign was ready to disclose her condition to the public.

With the announcement came the news of her "time to time" absence from "Good Morning America" as she would be devoting most of her time to caring for her partner.

She further noted that numerous people struggled with cancer, and she would keep them in her prayers, hoping people would also keep her and Laign in theirs.

Roberts never ceases to appreciate how supportive her significant other has been throughout their years of being together, especially when she was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2007 and myelodysplastic syndrome in 2012.

She previously commended Laign for being her "gracious caregiver" and promised to be there for her as she endures the distressing phase.
