On Wednesday,A$AP Rocky was arrested when his private plane landed at Los Angeles International Airport, better known as LAX. He had been returning from a trip to Barbados with his pregnant girlfriend, Rihanna.
Rocky, born Rakim Mayers, was arrested in connection to a shooting that allegedly happened in November 2021. In addition to his arrest, the police also obtained a search warrant for his home in Los Angeles. The LAPD reportedly made the arrest with assistance from Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations team.
A$AP Rocky Released From Jail Several Hours After His Arrest
According to NBC News, Mayers’ attorney, Alan Jackson, confirmed that Mayers had been arrested. He was booked into the jail at 12:42 PM with a bail set to $550,000 dollars, according to the Los Angeles County Sherriff’s Department booking report.
Mayers posted his bail and was released about three hours after posting bond. He has a court date set for August 17, which is likely after Rihanna gives birth to their first child, given that she is already in her third trimester. Police also executed a search warrant at his home in Los Angeles and were said to have retrieved some items from the home.
According to the LAPD, Mayers is the primary suspect in a shooting that took place on November 6, 2021, near Vista Del Mar and Salma Avenue around 10:20 PM that night.
A$AP Rocky Is The Primary Suspect In Nov. 6 Shooting
The shooting victim told police that Mayers had been walking with two others down a street. The victim claims that Mayers approached him with a handgun and shot at him three or four times. The victim believes that one of the bullets grazed his left hand, as stated in the police report. Police say that the shooting happened after an argument between the two, but the relationship between Mayers and the victim is currently unclear.

NBC News says that the reporting was not reported in the media. Shortly after Mayers’ arrest, the LAPD tweeted, “Early this morning, LAPD officers arrested Mayers for assault with a deadly weapon (firearm) at the Los Angeles International Airport. The case will be presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office for filing consideration.”
A$AP Rocky Has Faced Legal Trouble Before
In 2019, Mayers was arrested in Sweden after a fight broke out that included his entourage and two men. Then-President Donald Trump fought for his release and warned Sweden that it would face “negative consequences” if Mayers was not freed.
Mayers was convicted of assault and was given a suspended prison sentence. He served a month in jail and did not need to serve any additional time. He also had to pay more than $1,000 dollars in damages.
TMZ reported that Rihanna was “totally blindsided” by his most recent arrest on Wednesday morning. Law enforcement sources told the outlet that they chose not to inform Mayers that he was about to be arrested, although it had reportedly been planned for about a week.
Rihanna Was Reportedly 'Blindsided' By The Arrest
One of the reasons that they did not inform Mayers of the arrest is reportedly so that they could attempt to find the gun that was allegedly used in the shooting. Both the arrest and the search of his home happened at the same time, to prevent Mayers from confiscating the gun that he might have used in the alleged crime.
Sources told TMZ that she wanted to go to Mayers home to retrieve some of her belongings, but the police would not let her.
