On Tuesday, April 12, comedian Gilbert Gottfried passed away at the age of 67.

His family posted a statement to his Instagram account, which read, “We are heartbroken to announce the passing of our beloved Gilbert Gottfried after a long illness. In addition to being the most iconic voice in comedy, Gilbert was a wonderful husband, brother, friend, and father to his two young children. Although today is a sad day for all of us, please keep laughing as loud as possible in Gilbert’s honor. Love, the Gottfried family.”

The "Aladdin" voice actor leaves behind his wife, Dara Kravitz, a daughter named Lily, and a son named Max. While many famous friends were paying tribute to the legendary voice actor on social media, The Pit remembered the time when Gottfried claimed to be a member of the heavy metal band Slipknot!

Gilbert Gottfried Once Claimed To Be Slipknot's Tortilla Man!

In the one-minute long video above, shared by Loudwire, Gottfried claimed to be the infamous Tortilla Man. Back in 2019, before the COVID-19 pandemic started, the music world was busy trying to figure out the identity of the infamous Slipknot Tortilla Man.

Gottfried eventually came forward to say, “I’d just like to finally tell you, I’m Tortilla Man from the band Slipknot.”  Of course, fans would eventually come to learn that Michael Pfaff was the Tortilla Man in a Loudwire article published in March 2022.

Still, it was a fun Internet sleuth for many fans who appreciated Gottfried for giving them the laugh.

“This has to be one of the best trolls for me.... I'm not even mad. Thanks Gilbert Gottfried,” one fan commented.

“Man. What I would give to see the whole bands reaction to this. That was just down right glorious!!” another added.

“I just witnessed the parrot from Aladdin say ‘if youre 555 then Im 666’..... what dimension is this,” another asked.

“I want a metal band with Gilbert Gottfried on vocals now,” another said.

Although that was sadly never to be, many famous friends did take to social media to remember a few of the highlights of Gottfried’s comedy career.

Former "The Daily Show" host Jon Stewart tweeted, "RIP Gilbert. Opening for Gilbert Gottfried at Carolines and Princeton Catch was one of the great thrills of my early stand up life. He could leave you gasping for breath…just indescribably unusually hilarious…D---."

Conan O'Brien tweeted, "I saw Gilbert perform in 1985 and when he entered to applause he said, 'Thank you, thank you very much.”'He then continued to say 'thank you' repeatedly for ten full minutes. It was the nerviest, funniest thing I had seen. So sorry to lose this sweet and delightfully funny man."

Last Week Tonight and host John Oliver remembered the time when Gilbert Gottfried read Brexit legalese and Bigfoot erotica in the above clip. They tweeted, "Gilbert Gottfried was the best. We once decided to punish UK audiences for their law prohibiting the use of parliamentary footage in comedy programs, by having him read Brexit legalese and Bigfoot erotica. Stick around till he gets to the erotica."

Although he may be gone, Gottfried's work will still be around to delight audiences for years to come.
