During a recent interview on "Jimmy Kimmel Live!," 42-year-old Segel revealed that Apatow compelled him and the "Night School" actor to live in an apartment together for several months in 2001.

He said, "It was a strange time because we were all so young. None of us had really had that much success yet, and Judd Apatow - in a weird move - made Kevin Hart live with me for like six months."

The "Knocked Up" actor also said he believed that Apatow thought their cohabitation would be "good for the show." He said, "And I lived in a one-bedroom apartment. So, suddenly, Kevin Hart was living with me, and he'd be like, "Hey man, are you making breakfast? I want some, too.'"

Unfortunately, the show never got to air, and Segel and Hart's time together eventually ended. The two actors were meant to star in the show with "Mad Men" actress January Jones and SNL star Amy Poehler.

Segel and Hart later progressed in their individual careers and became extremely successful. The How I Met Your Mother alumni also shared that he appreciates and respects Hart's work.

He said he noticed back in 2001 that Hart is highly attentive to his career and intentional about his growth as an actor. He said, "We would be out doing stuff, you know, being young dudes, and he would stay home and write and write and write."

"You would think, 'Oh, that's cute,'" Segel continued, "And then, you're like, 'Oh, that's how you do it.' That's how someone ends up being Kevin Hart." Segel and Hart have since worked together on two films, "This Is The End" and "The Five-Year Engagement."

Despite the failure of North Hollywood to premiere as a show, Segel had already worked with Apatow on his and Paul Feig's cult classic series, Freaks and Geeks. Unfortunately, the coming-of-age NBC show only lasted one season, after which it was canceled.

In a surprise twist, the filmmakers revealed last year that back in the early 2000s, there was a secret proposal to renew the show for a second season on a different network. However, the plans never materialized, and the show has never made its comeback.

Apatow and Feig spoke to Collider in June 2021, and they revealed that the infamous show had the opportunity to film another season with MTV studios, not NBC, but the plans were never fruitful.

During the interview, Apatow said, "When the show was canceled, there was an offer from MTV to continue making the show at a much lower budget. And we all decided we didn't want to do a weaker version of the show."

Feig said, "I remember hearing that (MTV offered to pick us up). We probably just had to lose so much stuff and music and budgets. We were already always strained on our budget as it was."

The "Bridesmaids" director then added that shortly after they declined the offer, he thought, "Oh my God, what did we do? Could we have pulled it off if we had done it?" However, Feig stated that he doesn't regret choosing to end the show. He said he was satisfied with the finale episode and the closure it gave to the characters' storylines.
