Will Smith's mom is opening up about her son's controversial outburst at the recently-concluded 2022 Oscars.

As you might know, Will lost it at the award ceremony when he smacked comedian Chris Rock for a poor joke about his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith.

The "King Richard" star who took home the sought-after Best Male Actor award wasn't having Rock's joke about Jada's bald look ― due to Alopecia ― when he took to the stage and smacked him.

The controversial moment which will undoubtedly go down in history has birthed several memes and online discussions among fans and celebrities. And now, Will's mom, Carolyn is joining in to share her thoughts.

During a recent interview with 6ABC, Carolyn discussed how the historic night, where her son took home his first Oscar Award, played out for their family who resides in Montgomery County.

The elated mother shared she woke up early on the big night and was the first to share a text on the family's chat group, urging everyone to send the "Bad Boys For Life" actor some good luck.

According to the doting mother, she was of opinion that her son should have taken home several Oscars for all his movies. "I thought he should have an Oscar for all of them," she happily stated.

However, when it finally came, Carolyn described the nod as well deserved. In her words, "I know how he works, how hard he works...I've been waiting and waiting and waiting. When I heard the name, I was just, 'Yes!"

Will's Mother Didn't Expect His Brash Reaction

On the debacle between Will and Rock, Carolyn revealed she was taken aback by her son's reaction. "He is a very even, people person. That's the first time I've ever seen him go off. First time in his lifetime... I've never seen him do that," she declared.

The actor's younger sister Ellen supported Carolyn's statement, noting she has seen her big brother maintain his cool and perform well under the pressures and spotlight of Hollywood.

Ellen said, Everybody has been bullied and abused in some kind of way and I totally understand...people are usually like I wish I was in such and such shoes, but you really don't know what it takes to get there."

She continued, "I've had conversations with him, and it like really kind of broke my heart listening to the things he's said he had to go through to get to where he is."

Regardless of the outrage surrounding Will's behavior, his family has nothing but immense love for him. Doting mother Carolyn concluded the interview, "I am proud of him being him."

'The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air' Star Apologized

In other news, Will has since apologized to Rock despite intentionally leaving him out of the apology he gave at the Oscars during his acceptance speech for Best Actor for his role in "King Richard."

In a social media press release, the 53-year-old expressed regret for his behavior and reached out to Rock.

"Violence in all of its forms is poisonous and destructive. My behavior at last night’s Academy Awards was unacceptable and inexcusable,” he wrote. “Jokes at my expense are a part of the job, but a joke about Jada’s medical condition was too much for me to bear and I reacted emotionally. I would like to publicly apologize to you, Chris."

He continued, "I was out of line and I was wrong. I am embarrassed and my actions were not indicative of the man I want to be. There is no place for violence in a world of love and kindness. I would also like to apologize to the Academy, the producers of the show, all the attendees and everyone watching around the world."

Will also mentioned the Williams sisters and his "King Richard" family in the lengthy apology saying he deeply regretted "my behavior has stained what has been an otherwise gorgeous journey for all of us."

He concluded the apology, calling himself a "work in progress."
