Singer Lady Gaga is turning 36 years old today!

Stefani Joanna Angelina Germanotta was born on March 28, 1986, in Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City. The singer and actress has starred in 2018’s “A Star Is Born” and 2021’s “House of Gucci.” However, she first launched her career performing as a teenager, starring in plays and performing at open mic nights.

Lady Gaga studied at the Collaborative Arts Projects 21 through the New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts. However, she later dropped out to pursue a career in music. She worked as a songwriter for Sony/ATV Music Publishing after Def Jam Recordings canceled her contract; however, she was able to sign a joint deal with Interscope Records and Akon’s label KonLive Distribution.

In 2007, she dropped “The Fame,” which became known for her hit songs “Just Dance” and “Poker Face.” It was later re-released in 2009 to include her EP “The Fame Monster,” which included hit songs like “Bad Romance” and “Alejandro.”

She released “Born this Way” in 2011, which sold more than one million copies in its first week alone! The titular song also became the fast-selling song on the iTunes store, reaching one-million downloads in less than a week. In 2013, she released “Artpop” and followed it up with 2014’s “Cheek to Cheek” with Tony Bennett. In 2016, she released the soft rock album “Joanne.”

She earned a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress for her role in “American Horror Story: Hotel” from 2015 to 2016, before she starred in the critically acclaimed musical drama “A Star Is Born” in 2018. The film and her chart-topping single “Shallow” made her the first woman to win an Academy Award, a BAFTA, a Golden Globe, and a Grammy Award in one year.

In 2020, she returned to her dance-pop roots with “Chromatica” and followed it up with another collaboration with Tony Bennett called “Love for Sale” in 2021. That same year, she starred in “House of Gucci,” which failed to earn her another Academy Award nomination.

Gaga is one of the world’s best-selling musical artists after selling 124 million records as of 2014. She is also the only female artist to achieve four singles that have sold 10 million copies globally. She has won a staggering 12 Grammy Awards, 18 MTV Video Music Awards, 16 Guinness World Records, awards from the Songwriters Hall of Fame and the Council of Fashion Designers of America, and recognition as Billboard’s Artist of the Year in 2010 and Woman of the Year in 2015.
