Taylor Hawkins, 50, was found dead in his hotel room in Bogota, Colombia, late Friday night. He was complaining of chest pains and so the hotel staff called the emergency services but by the time they got to the spot, Hawkins had already passed.

Hawkins had been the drummer of Foo Fighters, led by frontman Dave Grohl since the '90s, and was admittedly fond of 'doing drugs'. While the cause of his death has still not been released, the Colombian Attorney General has confirmed the presence of 10 substances in his body. It seems his love for drugs finally got the better of Hawkins as our hearts break for him and his family all over again.

According to the Colombia AG, a urine toxicological test discovered a cocktail of drugs in Hawkins' system, and among the drugs were marijuana, opioids, tricyclic antidepressants, and benzodiazepines.

While the cause of death has still not been announced, the National Institute of Forensic Medicine continues to investigate the same.

The local health officials, according to a report by CBS News, reported that Bogotá's emergency regulatory center had received a report of a patient with chest pain on Friday night. The health officials that responded to the scene performed the emergency resuscitation maneuvers, but efforts remained unsuccessful and the patient was declared dead.

The drummer and sometimes singer is survived by his wife, and three children along with his 'devastated' bandmates and legions of fans and friends.

Meanwhile, Colombian news magazine Semana has reported that the authorities may have concluded their report, stating that the cocktail of drugs led to a cardiovascular collapse.

The authorities have also confirmed that the Foo Fighters' drummer overdosed on heroin mixed with antidepressants and benzodiazepines. The last of the lot is a psychoactive drug known as "benzos" in the market and results in an increased heartbeat and often, an adrenalin rush.

According to the report, Hawkins's heart weighed 600 grams, which is almost double the weight of a normal human heart. Hawkins' health became a concern on Friday night when he began complaining of chest pains. After a private doctor could not help, the emergency responders were brought in but it all became a little too late for Hawkins.

Foo Fighters released an official statement soon after, "The Foo Fighters family Is devastated by the tragic and untimely loss of our beloved Taylor Hawkins. His musical spirit and infectious laughter will live on with all of us forever. Our hearts go out to his wife, children, and family, and we ask that their privacy be treated with the utmost respect in this unimaginably difficult time.”

Taylor Hawkins Admitted: 'No Happy Endings With Drugs'

In a 2018 interview, Hawkins had confessed that he loved doing drugs and that he was no one to give an anti-drug spiel.

He spoke about the 2001 heroin overdose that had put him in a two-week coma, "I believed the bull***t myth of living hard and fast, die young."

"I’m not here to preach about not doing drugs, because I loved doing drugs, but I just got out of control for a while and it almost got me. I was heading down a road that was going to lead to even worse paths. Whether someone’s sober, or they like a glass of wine with dinner, or they want a bottle of Jägermeister before they go on stage, or they like to smoke doobies all day long, everyone has their path, and I took it too far.

He continued saying that his two-week coma after an OD in 2001 was a wake-up call: "I’m glad it got knocked on the head at that point. I wouldn’t take anything away that I’ve done or been through either, because it’s all part of the trip and the journey. I’m trying to be as candid as I can be."

He also did not elaborate about being clean in another interview, writing, “There’s no happy ending with hard drugs. You’re gonna experiment, you’re gonna do all that shit, but at the end of the day, there’s no happy ending. I’m not an A.A. dude … I don’t discuss how I live my life in that regard. I have the system that works for me.”

Sadly, it seemed the system finally failed for him, and we can only imagine the grief of his family right now, along with his bandmates and friends.

RIP Taylor Hawkins.
