Lil Nas X hopes his courage to pursue his dreams and become an international pop star inspires everyone out there. At the recently concluded 2022 iHeartRadio Music Awards, Nas X snagged home one of the biggest awards.
The rapper during his acceptance speech spoke about how being "delusional" was responsible for his career success.
Lil Nas X Gives Emotional Acceptance Speech
The "Industry Baby" rapper took home the award for Male Artist of the Year and when he went on stage to get his prestigious award, he recalled a TikTok video that seemingly changed the course of his life.
Nas X shared that the viral clip saw a woman encouraging her followers to “be delusional.” However, at the time, the rapper didn’t fully grasp the concept until he did an introspection into his career rise.
The “Montero” singer, who donned an all-black ensemble with a combat jacket and high platform boots said, “I wouldn't be where I am right now, in my life and my career, if I weren't delusional. Believing I could drop out of school and become an international success within a year. It's delusional!”
Nas X then touched on his coming out as gay back in 2019, adding, “Believing that I could come out of the closet in the height of my career . . . to think that I could do that would be delusional.”
He continued, “To think that I could do a song about a man lusting after another man in a world where it's still legal in many places to be prosecuted and actually killed for being who you are, for being gay . . . it's delusional to think that that song could be the number one song in the world.”
Concluding his heart-melting speech, Nas X urged everyone that it was “okay to be delusional” when chasing their dreams. “When you have a vision in mind, you can be delusional,” he assured.
The touching message was well received by fans and colleagues who cheered on the “Old Town Road” singer.

The 22-year-old who has a massive social media presence and is known for causing chaos with his tweets took a 3-month break.
Unlike most stars, the Georgia native didn’t announce his decision to take a break from social media. Fans just noticed that the last time he posted was on December 5, 2021.
One of the comments shared by fans read, “Is Lil Nas X okay? He aint been on social media since early December. I hope he’s just taking a break and enjoying his success.”
Per reports, the last time Nas X actually tweeted was December 17 but he deleted all the tweets for reasons unknown.
At the time, the rapper tested positive for COVID-19 and shared that “COVID really sucks” in a statement. He also dropped out of the UK’s Capital FM Jingle Ball.
A Grand Return To Social Media
On March 16, Nas X finally broke his social media silence with a hilarious tweet that read, “Why are people surprised i’ve been away for so long? have y’all really never heard of maternity leave,” referring to his Montero album pregnancy shoot.
He then followed up the tweet with, “I’m so happy I’m back on the internet. I missed me so much.”
Fans were more than thrilled by Nas X’s return and took to the comments of his post to celebrate him.
One user wrote, “Ever since lil nas x came back I have gotten a girlfriend, a stable job, healthy hobbies that I love to do every day, my family has re-accepted me to their live and I’ve been the happiest I’ve been in a long time. I could not have done it without you.”
Luckily, Nas X didn’t return without bearing gifts. He shared photos of the random hairstyles he’d rocked during his hiatus while also teasing two new songs, “Late to the Party” ft Youngboy and “down souf hoes” featuring Saucy Santana.
