She wrote, "You are a homosexual and may never change- you don't admit to the possibility of a double life, but if your peace of mind, your health, your whole nervous system depend on a certain sexual pattern, what can you do?"

In January, Cooper told Variety that "Maestro" will begin filming in May but has not confirmed a release date. He said that he had always wanted to be a conductor since he was a child and even "asked Santa Claus for a baton when I was 8."

He continued, "Listening to music, falling in love with it and being able to really know every single moment of a piece, like Tchaikovsky's 'Opus 35' in D major, this violin concerto. I could do it as if I know everything about it without really being able to speak the language, obviously."

However, the film's primary focus will be the "beautifully complex story of the marriage between Bernstein and his wife." Outside of music, Bernstein was also very popular for his civil rights activism and outspokenness on issues like the Vietnam war.
