When “Magic Mike” premiered in 2012, it took the world by storm with its sexy stripper scenes and even sexier cast. It soon became extremely famous and is still one of the most memorable films from that year.
It was one of the films that made actor Channing Tatum very popular, but he wasn’t the only notable celebrity to appear in the film. There was also Matthew McConaughey, Alex Pettyfer, Joe Manganiello, and several others.
However, not all of the actors from the first film reprised their role in the sequel, titled Magic Mike XXL, which premiered in 2015. However, with the announcement that there will be a third Magic Mike film, fans have expressed hope that McConaughey will feature in the movie. Read on to find out what McConaughey said about the possibility and his interest in the film.
McConaughey Is Open To Featuring In The Film
During an interview with Variety, the 52-year-old actor revealed that he is interested in returning to the third installment in the Magic Mike film franchise. This news excited many fans of the original film, in which McConaughey starred as a strip club owner named Dallas.
Many fans were disappointed when Magic Mike XXL premiered, and McConaughey was not featured in the film, but this is an opportunity for Tatum to remedy that. McConaughey said, “Channing Tatum, call me, bro! I haven’t heard from ya!”
However, he added that he wasn’t yet entirely sure about being in the film. The “Wolf of Wall Street” actor said, “I don’t know, I’d have to read the script first. It was a helluva lot of fun doing the first one.”
Tatum Recently Announced The Third Film
“Magic Mike” made over $167 million at the box office, and its success led to another successful sequel, a stage musical, and has inspired several films and performances. 41-year-old Tatum announced the third film, titled “Magic Mike’s Last Dance,” and fans are super excited for the film.
He announced the film with the tweet, “Well, world, looks like Mike Lane’s tapping back in. @hbomax.” The tweet also indicated that “Magic Mike’s Last Dance” will premiere exclusively on HBO Max.
The film was written by Reid Carolin and directed by Steven Soderbergh, who was the director of the first film. Carolin is also a producer, alongside Peter Kiernan and Nick Wechsler.
Tatum Has Big Plans For Magic Mike 3
In an interview with People magazine, Tatum said, “There are no words for how excited I am to blow the doors off of the world of Magic Mike with Steven, Greg, Reid, and the amazing people at HBO Max. The stripperverse will never be the same.”
He also spoke about his directorial debut with the film “Dog” and shared some teasers about what fans can expect from “Magic Mike’s Last Dance.” Tatum said, “I want it to be the Super Bowl of stripping. I want dancing like we’ve never been able to do in the other two movies because we had to be honest to what the reality of that world is, which isn’t great dancing.”
The Third Film Will Have A Lead Female
During the interview, Tatum shared that he wants the film to feature professional dancers and that he thinks it is crucial that “Magic Mike’s Last Dance” has a well-written, lead female character.
He explained that “I want to have an equal, if not even more centralized female character for Mike to really play off of and almost to. I don’t want to say, to have her take the baton, but really let the movie be about a female’s experience and not Mike’s experience, because it has been so much about Mike and the guys’ experiences.”
He said that he saw the presence of this female lead as very important because the movies are intended to be “very, very female-forward,” and as such, there is a need for a significant female presence and narrative.
