Shay Mitchell Posts About Loss & Creation Of Life In Pregnancy Announcement

Shay Mitchell announced she’s pregnant with her second child on Monday, February 7.

The former “Pretty Little Liars” star announced the pregnancy news on her Instagram account.

She posted a photo of herself bare chested and with her baby bump on display. The announcement, while exciting, was also filled with a bit of sadness.

Shay captioned the photo, “Saying goodbye to a loved one while simultaneously experiencing the joy of welcoming another into this world is the great cycle of life. It is also my most challenging season to date. I can’t help but think this was the universe’s plan all along, knowing I would need other worldly joy to cushion the blow of losing one of the most important people in my life.”

The actress recently lost her best friend and “Gram.”

Shay’s pregnancy post continued, “Yet, this is proof that love, life and loss can profoundly exist all at the same time. Gram, I miss you every day. Little one, we are so excited to meet you. I breathe a sigh of peace knowing you two are already connected in such a cosmic way.”

Social media influencer Nikita Dragun commented, “OMG CONGRATULATIONS ??.”

Another commented, “Omggggg can’t wait to see what this baby looks like ???? You and Matte make beautiful babies ❤️ Congrats love ?????.”

Many others commented red heart emojis, heart-eyed smiling emojis and condolences.

This marks Shay’s third pregnancy and second child. She welcomed her daughter, Atlas, in 2019. She suffered a miscarriage one year earlier and opened up about it on her YouTube channel.

In the first episode of her YouTube series titled, “Almost Ready,” Mitchell revealed that she suffered a miscarriage at 14 weeks.

The ‘PLL’ star said the experience made her want to “hold on until I announced [second pregnancy]” given her first pregnancy “didn’t go as I had hoped for and it was extremely difficult.”

"When it happened, I was just completely blindsided by it," she emotionally said. "I still have those photos on my phone. I still have all the doctor visit (videos), and it’s weird because I haven’t looked at them, but it’s not like I forgot about that happening."

Speaking of loss, on February 1, Shay announced she had to say goodbye to her “Gram.”

In an emotional Instagram tribute she wrote, “I think anyone who knows me knows the relationship I have and have always had with my, ‘Gram.’ Although inevitable, it would nevertheless be one of the hardest things I would ever have to go through the day she’d pass.”

Her touching message continued, “She was and will forever be my best friend. From the imaginary games she would play with me when I was little to picking me up from high school because I was being bullied, to keeping scrapbooks of every article and magazine cover I have ever been in, she was my # 1 cheerleader. My heart is broken. Although I feel so grateful to have been able to spend such incredible moments with her and my family over 34 years plus having Atlas also be able to have her own special relationship with her, it’s hard to say that this will ever get easier because right now the pain I feel is excruciating knowing that she is gone.”

She added that the reality of her Gram being gone is “too much for me right now.”

Shay concluded, “I love you Gram. And I know you’re looking down on me with a drink in hand.”
