For almost two years now, Nicki Minaj‘s husband, Kenneth Petty, has been fighting a very serious legal case. This stems from early March 2020 when Petty was arrested for failing to register as a sex offender in the state of California.
This case involves Petty involves a 1995 rape case, where he was convicted of first-degree rape. The victim in this case is Jennifer Hough, who has since recently been outspoken about what she went through. Both were 16-years-old during this time, as Petty went on to serve a 4-year prison sentence.
Sentencing For Petty Is Delayed
Petty was initially scheduled to be sentenced On January 24. This comes after he was planning to enter a guilty plea. According to documents obtained by Radar Online though, a not guilty plea is the plan, and the sentencing date has been delayed. The new date has been set for March 30.
In addition to this postponement, Petty will submit an expert report. This is being used in order to explain why he should be able to avoid any form of jail time. He was initially facing 10 years. Five years of mandatory supervised release is on the table, though.
Petty Got A Federal Judge To Sign Off On Delaying Sentencing
Petty also stated how his expert needed additional time to complete this report. Therefore, a federal judge soon approved the motion, and finalized the new March sentencing date.
Petty is still registered as a sex offender in his home state of New York. Petty initially ran into the problems in California, when he was stopped by Beverly Hills Police, back in November 2019. Petty was soon arrested and released on $20,000 bond. The L.A. County D.A. also charged him for failing to register as a sex offender.
Petty’s Rape Victim Has Also Been Suing Him And Minaj
Back in August, TMZ also reported that Jennifer Hough filed a lawsuit against Minaj and Mr. Petty. This was due to the married couple allegedly trying to bribe Hough, in order to change her story on what actually happened, back in 1994-1995.
When Hough denied these bribes, she went on to claim that her life was threatened by Minaj and Petty’s associates. Hough and her family were said to have “suffered an onslaught of harassing calls and unsolicited visits.” Hough’s brother was even offered $500,000, in order for Hough to recant her story.
Lawyers were also sent to Hough’s home, in another attempt to convince her to recant the story. A final bribe offer of $20,000 was also made, to which Hough also rejected. When another threat was made after this, Hough decided to move from this home in August 2020.
