Rapper Nicki Minaj is opening up about how her issues with California Governor Gavin Newsom led her to support President of the United States, Donald Trump.
In December 2025, the “Super Bass” rapper made headlines after appearing alongside Erika Kirk at a Turning Points USA convention, where she praised Trump, saying she has the “utmost respect and admiration” for the politician.
Nicki Minaj Said She’s Long Been A Fan Of President Donald Trump
During an interview with TIME Magazine, Minaj said that she’s long been a supporter of President Trump; however, she feared sharing the news.
“I felt that way already about him, just that I didn’t dare act like that publicly,” she said. “It’s been ingrained in everyone’s brain in the music business that we are supposed to be a Democratic family. I just knew they would not like me supporting Trump.”
Nicki Minaj Says Her Beef With California Governor Gavin Newsom Led Her To Support The President

Elsewhere during the interview, Minaj shared that her previous experiences of being swatted led her to support Trump.
Swatting is the “malicious act that can involve placing false emergency calls to emergency responders, often reporting a (false) severe, ongoing crisis at a specific location,” according to DHS.
Minaj told TIME that she reached out to Newsome for help with the frightening experiences and claimed the politician ignored her.
“He just completely ignored me, with all the money I spent in taxes,” she said.
After being swatted again, Minaj said she was put in contact with Republican Congresswoman Anna Paulina Luna, who told the rapper about a security firm and connected her with law enforcement.
“I was shocked,” Minaj said. “I’d never seen anyone in politics treat me that way,” adding that her support gave her the confidence to vocally support the POTUS.
“That’s what made me say that I don’t care to keep this a secret anymore,” she said.
Minaj Comes For Newsom In Social Media Posts
Minaj’s comments about Newsom aren’t surprising, given that she recently trolled the 58-year-old online after he said he spoke about his efforts to support the trans community.
“Imagine being the guy running on wanting to see trans kids,” Minaj posted online. “Haha. Not even a trans ADULT would run on that. Normal adults wake up & think they want to see HEALTHY, SAFE, HAPPY kids.”
She didn’t stop there, though. In another post, Minaj shared an edited image of Newsom behind bars, captioning the flick, “Career politician at the brink of his moment realigns to become nothing more than a Nicki Minaj ANTI. OOF.”
The mother of one finished the post with, “#Newscum.”
Do Other Celebrities Feel The Same Way Nicki Minaj Does About President Donald Trump?

According to Minaj, she’s not the only celebrity who feels strongly about Trump and his policies.
“Many celebrities feel the way I do … but they don’t say it. Sometimes you just need one brave person to get the brunt of the impact. I think I am the catalyst for that change,” Minaj said.
Minaj, however, said that celebs like her don’t want to speak about their admiration for the politician for fear of backlash. She hopes, though, that her willingness to vocalize her love for the 79-year-old encourages others.
“Hopefully when they see me and hear me speak and feel my energy … that will make them say, ‘You know what, who am I afraid of? What am I afraid of?'” she said.
Minaj Has ‘The Utmost Respect’ For Trump

Minaj made headlines in December 2025 when she made a surprise appearance alongside Erika Kirk at a Turning Points USA convention.
“I have the utmost respect and admiration for our president,” Minaj said. “I don’t know if he even knows this but he’s given so many people hope that there’s a chance to beat the bad guys and to win and to do it with your head held high and your integrity intact.”
At the time, Minaj shared a similar statement about her recent decision to go public about her love for the former “Apprentice” star.
“I just got tired of being pushed around,” she said, adding, “I’m not going to back down anymore, I’m not going to back down ever again.”
