“Counting On” alum Jill Duggar had an unfortunate experience with some self-tanner lotion recently. The former TLC reality star shared a photo on her Instagram Story that showed the less than desirably results of attempting to apply to lotion herself, which ended up looking splotchy and not very natural. However, Duggar said the result of the tanner on her legs, which she didn’t show photos of, was much better.
“I should have put regular lotion on my hands just to, like, smooth it out but, like, you can tell it’s very splotchy,” the 29-year-old revealed on her Story on Thursday. “Yeah, not gonna work.”
She said the tanner on her legs was much better.
“I did put regular lotion on my knees before touching up to help blend it, and it worked great. No lines!” Duggar said. “I just need to figure out how to better apply it to my hands.”
In her younger years, it’s unlikely that she ever would’ve even attempted self tanner, but ever since moving out of the home of her parents — Jim Bob and Michelle — and getting married to Derick, she’s broke free from her family’s strict rules.
Jill got a nose ring and a henna tattoo and has been spotted wearing shorts and showing off her shoulders, things she never would’ve done previously.
Her mom spoke about their modest way of dressing on TLC back in 2013.
“Our interpretation [of modesty is] that from the neck down to the knee should be covered. By keeping those private areas covered, there’s not any ‘defrauding’ going on,” she explained at the time. “My kids are taught the definition of defrauding as stirring up desires that cannot be righteously fulfilled. We don’t believe in defrauding others by the way we dress.”
The relationship between Jill and Derick and the Duggar parents has become strained in recent years as they’ve branched out on their own and become less conservative.
Earlier this month, Derick revealed that they aren’t allowed to visit Jim Bob’s home unless they receive a formal invitation from him. This has led to them seeing the other Duggar siblings less as they are often hanging out at their parents’ home.
“Because our visitation to the Duggar house has been restricted and that is where they and their spouses hang out, we have not been able to see other family as much as we would like, so that is difficult,” he said.
