Maitland Ward, who recently made the transition from sitcoms to adult films, has responded to news that Steven Spielberg’s daughter Mikaela is entering the pornography industry.

Speaking to TMZ, the former “Boy Meets World” actress said she thinks Mikaela’s decision is “amazing” and added that she believes the Oscar-winning director’s 23-year-old daughter will be “protected.”

"It's amazing," Ward said. "I think we're living in a really changed world when it's becoming accepted and celebrated, in many ways. Listen, if she wants to do this, and live in her truth and her authenticity, and she loves sexual performing, go do it."

Cause for concern?

On February 22 Page Six reported that, according to a source, the “Jaws” director and his wife, actress Kate Capshaw, are “embarrassed” by Mikaela’s announcement.

“Outwardly, Steven and Kate, who are the most evolved parents in the world and love their kids beyond all measure, have always been supportive of Mikaela and try to understand her,” the source said. “Obviously, though, they’re embarrassed by her sudden public admission of entry into the sex worker world.”

This person added that Spielberg and Capshaw “only want the best for [Mikaela]. But they’re also concerned that this path might not end up being the best.”

Asked about this, Ward said she understands their alleged concern but implied that working in Hollywood is even worse.

"I understand that," she told TMZ. "In any industry, you should be concerned. In Hollywood, you should be concerned especially if she's meeting people in person. That's when you really need to be concerned."

“Sexual creature”

Mikaela made her porn ambitions public earlier this month on social media. In an interview with the Sun last week, she called herself a “sexual creature.”

"I've always been a very sexually natured person, which has gotten me in trouble before,” she told the British tabloid. “Not in a predatory way, but just in the sense that people here in the South might not yet be comfortable with that.”

"My main hope is just that I get somewhere lucrative enough to where I'm not tied down financially by things,” Mikaela added. “And then I can really start saying to people there's nothing wrong with me using my body in a way that feels comfortable to support myself.”

Feels no shame

She went on to tell the Sun that her goal is financial independence, and that she views porn as a “positive, empowering” thing.

"I can't stay dependent on my parents or even the state for that matter … not that there's anything wrong with that,” she said. “It just doesn't feel comfortable for me. This isn't like an 'end of the road' or 'I've hit bottom' choice.’”

"This is a positive, empowering choice,” she continued. “I realized there is no shame in having a fascination with this industry and wanting to do something that is safe, sane, consensual."

Only solo work

Out of respect for her fiance, 47-year-old professional darts player Chuck Pankow, Mikaela said she does not intend to have sex with other people on camera:

"The reason I don't want to do anything outside of solo stuff is because I feel like it would be a violation of my boundaries and my relationship with my significant other."

She is, however, open to performing fetish videos.

"I think I would be great at fetish work," she told the Sun. "Honestly I have hated my chest for so long but I've finally learned to embrace it. That was one of the things when I uploaded these first couple of videos, I realized, 'This is the moneymaker, my large chest.'”

She says she is now proud of her body, despite what other people might say and think.

"And it was actually really nice and refreshing to have people saying cool things, because people can often say really upsetting things about a black woman's body sometimes," she said.
