Jeannie Mai is using her pregnancy as an opportunity to share more of her personal life with her fans. On Hello Hunnay, the talk show host’s YouTube channel, she shared that she never saw herself pregnant and the reason behind why she never wanted to have kids.

The newlywed is experiencing life at super speed with just a short time between getting married and finding out that she is expecting. However, receiving the news of having a baby was both exciting and frightening for the 42-year-old.

‘Still Dealing With Trust Issues’

Mai was glowing as she shared the major fear of becoming a mother. “It still scares me whether or not I can keep a kid-safe from someone else who might hurt them.” She also questioned for years if she wanted to work on fixing herself or potentially ruin someone else.

She chose to fix herself, and while she didn’t say right away, that she wanted kids when she was “fixed’, she did soften to the idea. But her wants didn’t go into full speed until she met rapper, Young Jeezy. Mai admitted that she was still dealing with trust issues regarding trauma in her past, more specifically, the abuse she suffered at the hands of a family member.

Even as she began dating the rapper she shared with fans, “he was very upfront with the fact that he has two beautiful children, and I was upfront with the fact that I didn’t want children.” Actually, The Talk co-host said, “it seemed relieving, that there was no pressure on either side.”

Mai publicly shared a few years back that she was sexually assaulted by a family member. She and her mother worked through their differences about what took place on an episode of her YouTube series titled, “Why I Didn’t Talk To My Mom For Eight Years”.

The account of her trauma was a weight lifted off the shoulders of both women and Mai receiving acknowledgment from her mother was one of the ways she was able to work past her trauma.

However, that didn’t mean she was eager to have kids and often used her platform to stand up for women who opted out of the “option” to have children.

God Is In Charge

Mai later revealed in the video that the love she has experienced with Jeezy has made her realized why so many women do decide to have children. Noting that while they began the process of IVF God took control and made things happen au natural.

“This love opened up visions and dreams of things I wanted to do with him that I never envisioned doing.” She continued to gush about their love and the next steps. “Building a family. Building the type of childhood, and the type of freedom and love that we didn’t always have as kids, in someone new.”

At the beginning of the revealing video, the talk show host stated that only a few years ago she would bet all her money “every last dime” that she would not have a baby and now she is singing a different tune.

“I’m so thankful because I’ve never felt this ready. I’ve been through so much, and I’ve survived and I’m shining. My heart is ready. I was meant to be a mom.”
