The latest Vanity Fair interview with Dwayne Johnson, also known as “The Rock,” has displayed a whole new vulnerable side to the 6’5” muscular former WWE wrestler.

After touching on his possible presidential ambitions, his rags to riches past, and the story of how he met his wife, it’s clear that there’s a whole different side to the “Fast & Furious” actor that most people don’t get to see.

The article does not only do a deep dive into his troubled past, but also explores some of what his previous co-stars had to say about him.

Ryan Reynolds

“Deadpool” star Ryan Reynolds and The Rock have actually known each other for about 20 years, and are finally sharing the screen together in the Netflix film “Red Notice” with “Wonder Woman” star Gal Gadot.

Reynolds believes that the thing that sets Johnson apart from others is his “innate ability to always laugh at himself” despite the fact that Johnson is “superhuman in stature and looks and charisma and all those things.”

“And that, in and of itself, is a superpower, you know?” Reynolds added. “I mean, that opens the door, you know, spiritually, emotionally, and literally. I think that’s always been in his arsenal, and that’s always been the thing that I think really allows people in.”

He continued, “I think sort of the allure of D.J. is that to a certain extent he wears his heart on his sleeve, and there is, underneath the muscles—which are all, by the way, spray-on muscles, I found out when we were shooting—he is incredibly vulnerable.”

Emily Blunt

“A Quiet Place” actress Emily Blunt also worked closely alongside Johnson during the filming of Disney’s 2021 “Jungle Cruise.”

“I know the first thing everyone notices is that colossal framework of a human, but what people who really know him well know is that held inside it is this equally oceanic compassion and humility,” she explained. “He’s got this sort of blazing charisma that he’s really known for, but he’s quite shy and introverted. He’s an interesting and very rare mix of really confident and really humble.”

She couldn’t help but add that despite his humility, “he also happens to be a tequila-swilling, fun-as-hell hang, and he’s got the filthiest laugh in the world.”

Oprah Winfrey

Talk show host, producer, and author Oprah Winfrey also had nothing but positive things to say about her friend.

“Most people have the ‘Do you see me?’ gene,” she explains, “but he truly has the ‘I see you’ gene. And I think the reason why he’s adored is because he is adoring of other people…. He really is what he appears to be. And people know that.”

She added, “I see so much of myself in Dwayne. Not in the physicality. Not in the disciplined workout. Not in that. But I see this kind of hunger that he has for life and for bettering himself.”

Vin Diesel

It’s no secret that Johnson and Vin Diesel do not get along. In “The Fate of the Furious,” the antagonism between the two actors was so great that Johnson only agreed to return if he had Diesel shared no scenes together.

In a now-deleted Instagram post, Johnson went off on Diesel, writing, “My female co-stars are always amazing and I love ’em. My male co-stars however are a different story. Some conduct themselves as stand-up men and true professionals, while others don’t. The ones that don’t are too chicken s--t to do anything about it anyway.”

After admitting that it caused a “firestorm,” he and Diesel had a meeting in Johnson’s trailer in order to address some of their issues.

“I wouldn’t call it a peaceful meeting,” Johnson explained. “I would call it a meeting of clarity. He and I had a good chat in my trailer, and it was out of that chat that it really became just crystal clear that we are two separate ends of the spectrum. And agreed to leave it there.”
