“In the spring I went to Los Angeles and met and started to date a wonderful woman named Olivia,” Mulaney said. “And we’re having a baby together.”
Two weeks after her boyfriend’s announcement, the pregnant actress shared on her Instagram, the very first peek of her growing baby bump. To mark a new partnership with Petco, Munn posted a glowy selfie video as she discussed the importance of pets’ mental health.
The mom-to-be wore a simple gray T-shirt for the moment, which she paired with layered gold necklaces. In an interview with Access, she disclosed that she received so much support from everyone and the love she got was so overwhelming.
“I’m feeling really good. The outpouring of love and support has been really amazing,” the actress said. “There’s a very real mom tribe that comes up — I’ve heard about it, but they’ve really come up in full force. And there’s a really great dad tribe too. Everybody comes up and just really is so supportive and loving. It has really meant so much to me,” she explained.
How Did The Duo Meet?
Mulaney and Munn met well before they were ever romantically involved. When Mulaney checked himself into rehab in December 2020, the Newsroom alum wished him well online. “Sending SO MUCH love and support to John Mulaney. You got this,” she tweeted at the time.
During a 2015 interview with HuffPost Live, Munn revealed that they first met at a wedding, where she recalled being “so obsessed,” with spending time with him.
“We were at a wedding together and I was like, ‘Oh, my gosh, do you and your fiancée want to go have dinner or something and go hang out?’” Munn said at the time. “At first it was cool, and then I kept going up to him at the wedding like, ‘So, you’re having fun?’ I was just so obsessed with hanging out with and talking with him.”
Following their awkward first encounter, she later revealed that she tried to stay in touch with him after the wedding by sending emails but “he never emailed back.” Munn later joked saying; “I might’ve got the wrong email—probably. That’s what I tell myself.”
The couple didn’t start dating until May 2021, one month after Mulaney filed for divorce from his ex-wife, Anna Marie Tendler.
What Really Happened Between Mulaney And His Ex-Wife?
Per sources, Mulaney, who checked himself into rehab for 60 days late last year after struggling with alcohol and drug abuse, asked for a divorce from Tendler a few months after.
A spokesman for Mulaney confirmed the divorce to Page Six and added that “John will not have any further comment as he continues to focus on his recovery and getting back to work.”
Tendler, an artist who works across many mediums and is a master’s candidate in NYU’s Costume Studies program — added through her spokesperson saying, “I am heartbroken that John has decided to end our marriage. I wish him support and success as he continues his recovery.”
Mulaney Revealed That Munn And His Baby Saved His Life
During an episode of “Late Night with Seth Meyers,” Mulaney opened up about his struggles with alcoholism and drug addiction.
“I didn’t want an intervention. At that moment in time, I wanted to continue using drugs. Sitting here tonight, I’m so grateful to you and to everyone there for saving my life.”
He added, “You guys saved me from drugs and Olivia and this baby has helped save me from myself and this early journey out of recovery. I don’t have a joke for that. I’m really grateful to you, buddy.”
Mulaney called himself a “reverse catch” for the actor, noting that they started dating as he was “right out of recovery.” He also confessed that he felt very lucky to have re-met Munn when he did.
He called their relationship “beautiful” and called her “incredible” for being with him. “She kind of held my hand through that hell,” he shared about dating her at what he called a “challenging” time.
What’s The Sex Of The Baby?
Although fans were curious about the sex of Munn and Mulaney’s baby, the former revealed in an interview with Access Daily‘s Mario Lopez that she hasn’t found out the sex of her first child, but it’s something she’s considering.
“I haven’t decided if I’ll find out yet or not but I’ll take that to heart,” Munn said. “It’s a good surprise to find out; there’s very few surprises in life,” she said.
Lopez, for his part, encouraged Munn to wait to find out the sex of her baby when he/she/they’re born—a decision that he and wife Courtney Laine Mazza made when it came to their three kids.
